Installed the software yesterday and what I noticed it's a much faster switch on and ready camera. It goes instantly ready. Also noticed that the flash sync speed is up to 1/300s maybe this has to do with the new flash coming out in August.

Try and downgrade to version 1.0.4 and reinstall 1.0.8 with no problem.

Currently on version 1.0.8 I will make some more tests today with a different environment to see how the lock focus issues are going but from what I tested yesterday with almost no light on the concert it looked much better on acquiring focus and

I know people here try to find a lot of new things and specs everytime a new firmware is out But,

1. The start up time is about the same as before

2. And it takes the same time as before to get ready for the first shot.

3. The flash sync time is also the same as before

4. And AF focus lock is the same also

Lars,

in fact maybe you are right. It's the same of everything, except this time I can focus, lock and track subjects on a much darker environment which with 1.0.6 I could not and that I'm pretty sure. Maybe the rest I did not pay much attention as I never sync at faster than 1/200 and I can tell you that I'm not trying to find new things to report on.

I just wish canon would not have made this new sensors where at flash sync speed 1/160 with apertures around f11 you could not freeze the subjects very well and this is a common issue with the 5D MarkII. I've been using Canon for quite some time since the release of the 10D's so I'm know what I'm talking about here. It's insane to try and using speed of 1/400 and above in every conditions to keep things sharp lately I find myself using high ISO's where I would never used them on my previous 1D MarkII and 1D MarkIIn only after the release of the MarkIII this started to happen.

Don't know you but I feel a little disappointing on spending thousands of euros on Canon gear only to find out that sometimes you get the pictures in complete sharpness and some other times not so in sharpness and I'm not talking on sequences Just the typical point focus recompose shoot situation.

Not trying to go into the Canon/Nikon war here and that was never y intention, just saying that for a 4.500 euros camera it should performed much better on focus acquisition and overall sharpness. I see myself erasing a lot of pictures because of the "blur" thing. And now comparing that with the old sensors of the 1D MarkII man that sucks completely.

Just want to let you guys know that I find that the focus is much more stable than the previous 1.0.6 and I can now lock on successfully on a much darker environment. Been testing the 1.0.8 to exhaustion this previous 2 days under low concert lights and it locks much better than my previous 1.0.4 (I never updated to the 1.0.6 and in fact I did return in back to 1.0.4 after updating because of bad lock focus issues on servo mode) either on Servo and 1 shot mode. Not saying it's a real wonderful thing... but I feel it's much better in getting consistent sharp pictures.

If anyone has updated please let me know your thoughts on this matter and on other fields. as football season is starting in August I will keep you posted on my findings on servo mode under stressed football conditions, but for now I'm much happier with this 1.0.8 firm.
