Not enough storage. 200gb would be nice for digital photographers. More for video.
No fast CF card transfer.

I'll wait for version 2. I'll have to use my macbook pro 13" a little longer.

Do you think that there would be a way to shoot tethered into it?

Some one could figure out how to interface it.

TV and Video
Support for 1024 x 768 with Dock Connector to VGA adapter; 576p and 480p with Apple Component A/V Cable, 576i and 480i with Apple Composite Cable
H.264 video up to 720p, 30 frames per second, Main Profile level 3.1 with AAC-LC audio up to 160 Kbps, 48kHz, stereo audio in .m4v, .mp4, and .mov file formats; MPEG-4 video, up to 2.5 Mbps, 640 by 480 pixels, 30 frames per second, Simple Profile with AAC-LC audio up to 160 Kbps, 48kHz, stereo audio in .m4v, .mp4, and .mov file formats

Can out put to it anyway, I use DOF calc on my ipod, i have Bird Explore app to identfiy birds in the field also has most all bird sounds. Various other photo relatred apps like Strobox for lighting setups.

I agree more storage ability would be very cool. I t does say There’s also a Camera Connection Kit that lets you import photos from a camera or SD card. If we can read a card in theroy we can write/store more??

Every single software comany and internet solution providers are gearing up to deliver apps to all phones let alone a device like this. If some thinks they can make money figuring out how to tether this as you said it will happen.

Im a computer geek for a living so the device has me very excited.

More like an iWonder.

All the class of a netbook .... not much that is

I guess it's aimed at the Kindle, but version 2 should be better (and 3.1 probably just right )

amusing, but your gonna get it.

after really looking it over its pretty much a iTouch only bigger. no support for flash (by design) at this point. a way overkill remote for the Onone software app.

There's an app for that. (Sorry, I couldn't resist).

No, really, there's an app that lets you wirelessly connect your iPhone/iPod touch to a computer that is tethered to your camera and shoot using the phone (controls aperture, shutter speed, even has live view). Now, if they could figure out how to connect the camera directly to the iPad and revamp the app to allow that, we'd be in business!

now why would they want to do that. it would then become a truely independent useful tool. well almost.

There is a USB converter, couldn't you just use a USB card reader?

I was wondering if the optional external SD card reader could be used as an external storage device. I'm amazed that they didn't include a built-in card reader but then that would have been too useful wouldn't it.

There are a few limitations...

For one thing, it runs on a 1Ghz Arm A9 processor and its processing power is somewhere between an iPhone 3GS and an Atom netbook. The other problem is that it doesn't actually run a real OS. It's on a modified version of iPhone OS, meaning that it can't multitask and all the software you purchase must be through the iTune store.

Given that Adobe is quite peeved about the iPhone/iPod Touch and now the iPad not supporting Flash, I'm not sure how enthusiastic they'll about adding something like Lightroom Lite for the iPad.

Definitely.

Here is the guy that developed the naming scheme centered around the i.

a few you say? how can that be so?

this is yet just another vertical marketing extension. the real product is iTunes and this is just another access toy for it. for apple its not pay me now or pay me later it's pay me now and later over and over.

Yeah, and this A4 System on a chip (SOC) NOT to be confused with a "processor" BTW, will be in the next version of the iPhones themselves. So while it's a tad early right now we CAN say that it runs on the same SOC chip as the iPhone. The difference between the iPad 3G and the iPhone? Mostly ONLY screen size. The difference between the iTouch and the iPad w/o 3G? Mostly ONLY screen size.

I can say "I wish they would have..." about a LOT of things for the iPad but you know the saying... Wish in one hand... It just ain't gonna happen! I don't think in the 2 or 3 years to come either - honestly.

It's also not going to replace or overtake current e-book tech as an LCD just cannot compete with e-ink displays. So basically its just a gigantic iPod/iPhone. At $500 I do wonder if it will replace digital picture frames though? I can see it as a bed-side tool as well. Alarm, cosy browsing with the wife (maybe with a digital copy of the Kama Sutra? ), check morning schedules, etc., etc..

PS: I wonder if Scott has a glass eye or just a lazy eye?
