Never had it, but that beer does look tasty. Great area, Otsego County. Used to travel through it regularly on my way to Oneonta from the Northern tip of the state.
Luka, I'm impressed with that close up performance of the 25mm 2.8. Nice transition and pretty bokeh. Please post more close up shots with the 25mm when you get a chance. And that beer really looks inviting!
Xpost from the sony FE thread. I had mixed feelings about the Sony RX1 and ended up selling it. No mixed feelings about its replacement, the ZM 35/f1.4...it never comes off my camera.
Martines - Beautiful set. Those trees are beautiful !
Cadaver - Thank you. One unique feature of 25/2.8 is its ability to focus close range ( minimum 6.69" ). I believe this lens does not have floating element, so strictly speaking, its close range performance is not as optimized compare to the newer sibling, 25/2, which I think has floating element. (and yet the minimum distance is longer at 9.84"). I imagine, if anyone compares these two lenses at 9,84", 25/2 is optically superior, but 25/2.8 can get you 3" closer !! I will post some when I try some more close ups.
Talking about closeup. Cadaver's comment ignited some curiosity so I took some 'quick and non-rigorous' test shots using ZF.2 25/2.8 to see its closeup performance. In short, at minimum distance, image only focus in center with pronounced field curvature . It is similar to putting an extension tube. It focuses closer, but it is not quite much more than just that. Regardless, it is a could feature. All shots are taken at WO (f2.8) on a tripod with cable release.
This one was a shot of a flat object. It gets blurred toward the edge. Focus plain seems to move further out as I shifted the surface slightly further, edge start to get more focus, but not as good as in center.
3D objet is a little better. As curved focus plain may help wrapping the object when closest surface is placed in center, or simply because it obscures the corner performance.
One thing to note is that at minimum distance, lens hood is only about a few inches away. Tripod is definitely required, but the result may not be quite worth the effort unless the effect matches the shooter's intent. I would consider this to be sort of a 'in a pinch' capability, or an 'effect'. It can be fun, but if one wants a good closeup shot, it is better to use MPs.
In a everyday 'casual' use with no tripod and cable release, it is far easier to move a little further. This one was shot probably about ±12" or more away from the pineapple.
Just to be clear, I do enjoy this lens quite a bit. It does not give MP performance, but it is fun, and adds more room for creative framing. Also I like the bokeh it produces at this close range focal point.
