These are all test run shots using the Carl Zeiss 50mm f/1.4 ZF2 lens, so that's why I all shot it on jpeg (no active D lighting), to check color, tone and contrast characteristics. So far, all 3 ZF2 lenses (50, 25 and 21) all perform exceptionally well on jpeg, while the nikkors also perform great on good light, the Zeiss lenses seem to perform very well on any type of lighting and has it's own sharpness character (zeiss has a rounder sharpness while nikkors have a triangular sharpness). The only thing missing on the Zeiss lenses is AF. These are my faves for this series. Thanks for looking.
Alpha Geist - Those shots from Japan are really good. Himeji Jo castle photo is very surreal. The interior shot ( assume from also Himeji jo ) is amazing. Also the festival shots ( bon Odori ? ) are also very good.
Ray - Love those flower shots with 50 1.4. I assume they are planar ?
Thank you very much Luka! Himeji castle was being renovated/repaired during the time I was there. The main portion of the castle was inside that structure you see. There were some elevators from the base to the very top where you could see the castle being worked on. I plan on taking a tour inside next time I'm there.
The interior shot you see was from inside a temple somewhere in Kyoto. The walls and ceiling were decorated ornately (in gold).
The festival, bon odori, was somewhere in Hino, Tokyo. I recall the colorful dancers, tasty takoyaki...and the hungry mosquitoes. :P

Tooth - Great portraits !
Thanks Akul and yes it's a planar. They only made a planar for the ZF2.
Himeji castle is now fully restored in dazzling white plaster. Can't wait to get back there.

I need your help. At the moment I have two lenses only 35/1.4 and 85/1.4 (plus the GR). This cover most of my needs but I'd like to have a 50mm as well. But which one?
- the 'classic'? it is half price of the Milvus.
- Milvus 1.4
- Milvus 2.0 macro
If it was you, which would you buy and why? Thanks.
my quest has finished: i bought the classic. And with the savings between the milvus and the classic I bought a dp2s and a dp3 merrill.
it's a nice start for the year, now it is time to shoot and enjoy what I've bought.

Yes, yes, but Milvus is still technically ZF.2, I think. When I saw those photos, I thought they had the lovely color and rendering of planar I have always loved but I wasn't sure. I don't trust my eyes that much for blind tasting.
