Also, I just took delivery of the ZE 85 f/1.4 a couple days ago! I really like it so far but I haven't been able to do a ton of shooting with it just yet, I went out to the park yesterday and did some tests w/ subject isolation and this was one of the ones I liked.

Thanks! I really wish I had my ND filter with me for that one because I was waiting for the light to dim so I could have a better setting than what I shot it with.

It was 1sec @ f/16 ISO50, Not exactly what I wanted haha!

Great shots guys. I really like that beach shot Charles and the light and colors of those leaves are great John. Lovely portraits Adam - you really make good use of the 35/2. Abram's waterfall shot rocks as well.

Nice close up Philippe, I see you are getting the hang of the 100 MP.

Right, I really need to check this thread more often or my posts will only consist of long lists of pictures that I like

Anyway, some Zeiss on Zeiss lens porn:

Shot in a field where a group of butterflies showed immense interest in my camera gear. I've got every kind of possible combination of butterfly + camera equipment shots.

Lots of great images here (have been "offline" again some time), thank for inspiration!

johnahill - do you have larger version of your "Purple beech at Kew Gardens" available? It looks interesting but I really would like to see it in slightly bigger size if possible.

----

Just finished processing of Ireland holiday (just 4 days, 24-27th June) photos. Since I had only so short time I tried to beforehand to have "systematic approach" by planning beforehand what I want to shoot, and ended up to list (which is way too long for 4 days...):
1. Hills/mountains in changing light (=clouds shadows adding dynamics to lightning)
2. Roads, which are tunneled by trees
3. Seascapes/shores
4. Infrared landscapes of green fields and stone fences
As equipment I decided to use small kit consisting few ZE lenses and long lens from C/Y since Zeiss don't want to make one in ZE/F/S mount... 21ZE, 28ZE, 35ZE, 1.4/50ZE, 100ZE and Contax 80-200, polarizers, 67mm Hoya R72 (+58mm stepdown ring), panorama head, 3540XLS and Photoclam ballhead.

I think #1 and #2 went OK but #3 I failed, I was way too sleepy on morning and on wrong place mostly on evenings. And I start to think that for #4 real IR camera is needed, it's too hard to shoot without being able to compose and focusing using the focus scale IR-mark AND with 30-240s shutter speeds.

If I could do the trip again, I would concentrate only to Clare, Galway and Mayo counties - and also would consider to visit either Giant Causeway (+Antrim vallyes/creeks) OR Killarney national park (and it's surroundings) if I would have more time available. I didn't find the Wicklow county very interesting. Of course these are my personal preferences and I clearly prefer nature over culture. Also it would help to go to holiday more rested, I spent most mornings sleeping since I just not get up from the bed.

Some category #1 (Hills/mountains in changing light) images;

Ireland - Co. Offaly 04 - Carl Zeiss Distagon T* 2/35 @ f/7.1, 1/100s, ISO 100:

Ireland - Co. Galway 14 - Carl Zeiss Makro-Planar T* 2/100 @ f/11, 1/50s, ISO 100 (the foreground is not oversharpened or anything done in post processing, I took 23 exposure of this same scene during 20 minute period waiting the correct light what I wanted to have in foreground, in any of the other photos the foreground wan't as "painterly" as in this one):

Ireland - Co. Offaly 02 - Carl Zeiss Planar T* 1.4/50 @ f/11, 1/30s, ISO 100:

Ireland - Co. Dublin - Argdillan Castle yard, Carl Zeiss Distagon T* 2/35 @ f/5.6, 1/2000s, ISO 200:

Ireland - Co. Galway 07 - Carl Zeiss Distagon T* 2.8/21 @ f/11, 1/125s, ISO 100:

Ireland - Co. Mayo - Carl Zeiss Planar T* 1.4/50 @ f/8, 1/125s, ISO 100:

Ireland - Co. Galway 01 - Carl Zeiss Makro-Planar T* 2/100 @ f/11, 1/60s, ISO 100:

Adam: Great to see some portraits with ZE 35. Really like the shots, as this would be very typical of candid shoots. Personally the ZE 35 is my favourite for walk around portraits and functions.

Philippe, thank you, nice shot!

joakim, really like the shots with ZE28. Great to see more with this lens.

Luka, thanks, cool shots of the butterflies

Abram really like first three the shots. I like the way the 50/1.4 renders combined with the 5DII.

Samuli, absolutely great shots! A variety of lenses and lighting, makes it interesting to compare difference rendering of the lenses.

I'm with Luka, favs being 3 and 5. I love the lighting and feel to to #3.

denoir - Thanks. Your fourth and final shot is really something. The first few shots are quite humorous as this is a Zeiss forum. Funny thing about butterflies, I find that if I'm wearing certain colors, they love to land on me.

charles.K - Thanks for the comments, I find that the 35ZE makes a great walk about lens, thats why I'm so on the fence about the 50 1.4, as it would be a visually like an 85 but wide enough for walk about use. I like walk around lenses, I never leave the house without my camera, though I don't always take a photo Yesterday in the studio my fiance was working, and I just setup the lights around her, as a sort of color test for the video I'm going to be working on with her, and from there I just took some stills and I liked the way the 35 handled the scene so figured why not post. If anyone was wondering in the background is a Heidelberg Windmill model T taking up a bit of real-estate in the studio. Also a German engineered piece of machinery, kinda like Zeiss glass.. Also I seen your 21 beach snot, it looks like a fantastic place, especially for fashion with those rocks, I see a photo shoot in your future using the 100 MP ZE

Samuli - I really need to follow you around one day, maybe I'll get shots like the "Ireland - Co. Galway 07" fantastic btw! Oh and 3, 4 and 1 are big runners up in my books, so I don't know why you're hating on #3 it's my second favorite.

AbramG - The black and white forest is nice, and I think you had a waterfall shot a while back that I also quite liked!

All of a sudden an influx in photos, good good!

Adam, I was referring with "#3 I failed" to that I failed on seascapes/shore images "category", what I was trying to focus on my short trip. They would have required to shoot longer days but since I jumped directly from the office to plane I just didn't have enough energy to push through 18-19h long days (+driving from/to hotel), what would have been required. Maybe I also set my targets too high, too many things I tried to focus on such short trip.

PS. Co. Galway 07 shot would be nicer to repeat on conditions where cloud coverage would not be so thick = more holes in clouds. I really would have loved to take infrared image from this location but the location I shoot this photo was in "wind tunnel" between two mountains and wind was so strong that tripod almost fell from the force of the wind. Word of warning if anyone tries to go location indicated by GPS tags in the EXIF; the bog between road and the mountain/hill can be dangerous if you don't know what you are doing, even the surface would seem to be strong enough to carry man but in many places it isn't and it's easy to to find yourself in situation where you are suddenly knee deep in the bog.

--------

Only got few somehow usable images from category #3 seascapes/shore - I'm only somewhat happy to Co. Clare 10, other didn't work the way I liked them to work e.g. on Co. Clare 11 the rocks on bottom are house size, but on my photo they don't have size, thou could be as well just human head size...

Ireland - Co. Clare 09 - The Burren - Carl Zeiss Makro-Planar T* 2/100 @ f/10, 15s, ISO 100:

Ireland - Co. Clare 10 - The Burren - Carl Zeiss Makro-Planar T* 2/100 @ f/10, 30s, ISO 100:

Ireland - Co. Clare 11 - The Burren - Carl Zeiss Distagon T* 2/28 @ f/10, 8s, ISO 100:

Denoir - Great shots of the butterflys on the lenses
Samuli - Great shots from Ireland, love the seascapes especially.
I'll upload a larger version of the purple beech shot later, or if you send me a pm with your email I'll send you a full size jpeg.

Cheers
John

Both AMAZING...

My landscape work sucks really bad, every time I look on this forum I'm reminded of that fact.

Really great shots again Samuli. The last one would be better without the noise banding in the shadows though. Did you increase the exposure a lot in post?

Thanks. I think I just used shadows slider, hopefully in the 5DmkIII they improve the low ISO noise performance, even dark frame substraction there is bad noise. I have RAWs to make HDR, maybe on next winter I'll process them...

Yep, the 5DII low iso performance leaves a lot to be desired.

Thanks Charles, Adam & John!
