Painterly effect is better with sharper disc edges and onion rings (plus high saturation), to achieve more visible paint strokes= overcorrected lens plus busy background. Zeiss to me looks like watercolor/pastel in most cases and Leica more like oil, (purely subjective, but painterly effect is there).

Resizing for web in 50% steps, gives sharp - artifact free image.

Here is 50% resize and then 400% to show acute, sharp and clean edges.

And resize with no regard to percentage:

Retina doesn't care, only users that use vintage HD resolution will tell the difference. I've read that even mobile phones will have 4K resolution in near future.. and high pixel pitch.
Pixel peeping is doomed...

If you have a white flower on a medium dark background, and you resize, dark pixels are created around white edges.. and also when you do sharpening.

Zeiss Makro-Planar T* 2/100 ZE

Sigma 35 Art
Sigma - crazy sharp, but lacks some colors zeiss has. Subtle but noticeable. Double bokeh distracting.. its a mutant, partly canon partly zeiss, half sigma.. but its not zeiss. very fine lens but not "autofocus zeiss" .
