Thanks, Carsten. Dumbing it down in size and quality makes it darker than the full res. it is one that has to be printed large enough to see the detail in the dark regions. I shot a bracket to do HDR, but when I opened up the shadow a lot, I didn't like it nearly as much as this single shot.
Keep in mind that what you are doing here is what this lens is weakest at Close up and fairly wide open. Anything else you do it will be better at.
Carsten,
Could you please explain? I have been toying with the idea of getting the 50MP to serve as sort of a short 100mm for macro work and because I need something good at 50mm. I am wondering now if this is the right lens. On the other hand, I don't expect I would use the 50mm wide open for macro work, and for general use, I would not be at the MFD. So, maybe it would not be a problem?
The 85 and 50 planar are fairly soft at or near MFD. using a diopter on either, for instance 500D by Canon can let you capture similar field of view (and tighter) while using mid range of focus throw...and obtain generally better results.
50MP gets mixed reviews here. I loved it and have one on the way from B&H. People generally complain that it is too clinical for a 50 and too busy compared to the 100MP. I love the 50MP for landscapes and city/architecture. It also has the steepest focus falloff of any ~50mm macro lens I have seen. Makes bokeh look like a typical 100mm lens.
I liked the 100MP as well but at that FL prefer my Leica, except that it is heavier and less ergonomic. I think of the 100MP as having otherworldly bokeh and steep falloff. Wishing I could afford both it and my current macro, but not made of money.
I love the 50MP and plan on keeping both my Contax 50/1.4 and Rokkor when it arrives. Different tools for different tasks.
Amazing how this thread pulls on and on!
Привет Алекс! Good work on the frozen thorns!
Grenache, how nice and warm this garden on your second image is - Honoré de B. just slipped around the corner...
Mike R. - sweet candies for Xmas - the light could have been better for your cathedral shots!
I looked at the last three pages - quite some wildlife work there, amazing macro style with the 100/2 from Ronny and Prosep! How do you sharpen these things so nicely?
I tried some 100/2 close ups as well
Ah, and in case you see this sign ignore it: the red paint was the weakest part...

Ricardo - It has been a while to see your work here. Beautiful series. Those towers are so beautiful. From Toscana ?
Hi akul, thank you for your comments, much appreciated.
The towers are from a small village in Abruzzo: Pacentro, in Majella Natl. Park.
Here is another picture, taken by rotating the 21 Distagon:
Yes, the Sienna shot is spectacular Jochen, this light is saying all about Tuscany
Thanks Ronny, I just flickr-ed through your sets - I mean, the flowers are just gorgeous, but how amazing is the flying bee! You must have sat there for several minutes waiting with that MF lens...
@ Ripolini - some of your marvels look like Tirol, southern Alps in autumn - I love these leaves and golden forests! And the ancient town as well! Great moods.
I had scrolled to the right so I couldn't see the user name right away when I came across this image, and I immediately thought "OneAnt". Your visual style (disturbing, sometimes bordering on the insane, and I mean that as a compliment) is really unique. Well done!

Thank you.
Previous pictures were taken in Central Italy. However I love Tirol and I spend summer vacations in Osttirol. Here are few pictures from last summer:
