Live view is better implemented in the 5DII than in the D700, I believe, but I always forget exactly what the difference is. I get the job done with my D3, which should be the same as the D700. Live view is at working aperture for me, at least with my Zeiss ZF.2 (and of course adapted) lenses. It might be different for ZF lenses than for ZF.2 lenses, I am not sure.
I know what you mean about too many lenses to carry, but I don't mind having extra choice when I am packing

Samuli, the AF-ON button on the D3 does what you want, and I think the D700 is the same: http://www.flickr.com/groups/nikond700/discuss/72157611864599020/. Maybe the body you borrowed had it configured differently?
I would assume they were configured mostly like Nikon ships them from factory (the owner looked me weird when I asked how to change focus to thumb instead of shutter, so I assumed it cannot be done). I think it needs to be done via custom functions also in Canons, but since it's done once it's easy to forget - At least in my first Canon (it was the 3Mpix D30) you had to configure some button (asterix button) for autofocus via menus, can't remember the ones after that.
Me and my stupid rules, have to find again something to post... found.... again part of "Strings and ropes" set - Carl Zeiss Planar T* 1,4/85 @ f/5.6, 1/800s, ISO 100
Thanks to Samuli, frezeiss, Dalmas, Bob and Edward for your kind comments
Edward: not pebbles, boulders! The largest in that shot are around 30-50cm in diameter. It was rather spooky actually, at that beach alone with heavy surf, you occasionally would hear the waves moving smaller rocks about "click, clack, clack"...
Samuli, Lars, Lieutenant,Bob, Edward - Thank you for your comments!
Samuli - Sorry, I cheated but I was right on the first one and wrong on the second. Rode microphone shot, 100P shot. While I am staring at it, I get a slight swirly sensation. Probably from the focus plane. I really like th 50P rope shot.
JimboinTas - I like the abstract of rock surface.
Lars - Great people series from market. Magical light shaft on the last one.
Lieutenant - Love that ferris wheel set. Especially #2, #3. Great play with OOF. From the recent set, #2 stood out special. I like the composition, lighting, and the ominous sky.
frezeiss -Nice b/w. I did not realize there was a second deer right behind. Very cool.
Dalmas - Great rendering from 50P from last page. I also like the reflection shot from your recent set.
Bob - I like the #2, #3 from your West Bank series, and the bicycle shot from the second one.
Gary - Beautiful shot of a monk in a monochromatic stone temple. And, cute kitty !
Edward - The bronze statue portrait is my favorite. Nice lighting.
Grenache - 'Sized up' and 'Somber' are my favorite. I think 'Sized up' deserves a larger size though
ukkisavosta - I don't know what system you shoot with, but there are many 'affordable' options for zeiss lenses. Z series are current, so prices are higher, but you can find much lower price point with CY lenses. Depending on your system, you may need to convert them using Leitax.
felixj - Nice capture of atmosphere on the shot from Rome.
Uzay - Great set. Wonderful exposure on the interior series. #1, 6, 7, 13 are my favs.
Rodluvan - #2 is just gorgeous. Great lighting, composition, and capturing the space. And, a nice swan shot!
Dalmas, Lieutenant Z, Samuli, Akul: many thanks for your nice comments!
Bob, the part 2 set is also very nice. Great colors!
FelixJ, b/w works very well for this shot. Very nice!
Lieutenant Z, beautiful lighting with the dark cloudy sky yet strong shadows.
Dalmas, the 2nd shot is superb. It would look even nicer if you crop the top part, imo.
Uzay, what a beautiful set. I can't single out any photo. All lovely!
Samuli, as usual very fine work! You really know the strengths of your lenses.
Rodluvan, the first is my favorite. Maybe if you crop out the wheel on the left border?
JimboinTas, loool, my bad

I agree, but as I try to keep the same aspect ratio that would mean either cutting the yellow banderole or the foot as well. I can possibly clone it as a last resort.
thanks for looking.

Dalmas, xtobolic thank you
Bob, it was a long approach towards the deer as she kept shying away. Eventually she gets tired (10 minutes) and gave me a pose .
Looks like you've got a very strong set right there, really nice.
Edward, I sense 3D in your statue shot. It seems you've been enjoying your GXR quite a bit
Gary, cute cat shot!
felixj, superb! very moody
Philipe, I like your 2nd shot. What is that place?
Uzay, excellent set..it gets better as you scroll down?
Samuli, nice renderingin the boat shot.
Daniel, 1st is lovely..agree with Edward though..
Luka, thanks! she was protecting the young one
Dalmas, nice clarity in your 2nd lake shot
Lars, I have also the 100 MP but I'm not able to produce excellent close up like you.. I also got this hand tremors that makes me foes with close ups.
Rodluvan, the shot is very beautiful as it is
Lars, Thanks for your comments. Those flowers are gorgeous!
Frezeiss, thanks too I am really enjoying the GXR, but nothing beats the feeling of the Zeiss Ikon. Too bad it shoots only film
Lieutenant Z, I'm speechless! Those 2 images have the WOW factor X10

Thanks, I shoot with a Canon system. I really enjoy the Zeiss look, but I have decided that I will start eyeing Zeiss glass seriously only after I have educated myself enough in the fine art of photography - the first Zeiss I get will mark that "graduation". I did get the Samyang 35mm recently to see how I would cope with a fast MF normal/wide lens, though.
As it stands, I am (and should be) happy with my current lens lineup, and the superiority of the Zeiss would really be lost on me at the moment, but maybe some day.
