Hand held HDR is with one RAW shot, or more? Can't do a classical one or two stop bracketed HDR hand held right?
All 3 shots (5DmkII in 2sec timer, takes automatically 3 shots as fast as possible - with live view there is no mirror vibration - I use LCDVF & liveview for all handheld shooting). PhotoMatix can correct different alignment in different frames. Typically I adjusted the camera so that brightest image was shoot at 1/30s since I can't handhold 21mm any longer time and keep image critically sharp, even at 1/30s success ratio is not very good.
My first shots with the 21 ZE (and first use of Zeiss glass altogether). The weather and light was exceptionally boring so I quickly gave up on landscapes. Instead I tried my hands on some bokeh play with closeups of flowers..
Well, I suppose I could add a final image that is more in line with the expected use of this lens:
Amazing shots Samuli !!!
Excellent use of HDR. Really add to the emotions and feelings of Notre Dame.
Thanks for the heads up of your technique, as you can't always carry a tripod, if fact quite often it is very obstrusive.
Photomatix is excellent. I have been using Photomatix, but I am just learning how to use HDR in CS5, which is meant to be very good. So far I feel it does not compare to Photomatix, but it is more the lack of my skill of understanding CS5 with HDR.
One more trick for the bag. Thanks for the insight. That was a good use for it, and you pulled it off very well.

I just got my ZE35 and all I can say is wow. You really don't have to try to hard to get that infamous 3D effect. I've got my focusing screen on the way, and I know it will be an asset for novice like myself. Call me weird, but I also ordered a Tamron 17-50 at the same time. This was suppose to replace my 17-40L. Not a bad lens at all, it just looks sad next to the Zeiss. Send it back and get the ZE21?
Thanks for all the eye candy on this thread. It's definitely going send me to the poor house. ...Show more →
SEND IT BACK, SEND IT BACK... If you need a zoom and you like the Tamron, keep it. If you don't need the zoom, and you don't mind MF get the Zeiss..
I like the 35ZE, though the 21ZE is probably next on my list.

That was my problem too.. my Canon lenses sitting idle while I bent over backwards to find ways to use my 2 Zeiss... then, I just gave up and sold them. Almost never looked back, too...
Samuli, totally brillant shots. I should know how tough things were, I was there with you, couldn't get anything worthwhile....and you make it look simple and obvious....and beautiful!
I am still trying to get my head round how you use Live View holding the camera by hand. How do you focus and keep the camera steady? I was under the impression Live View was used exclusively with a tripod. And my attempts to use it hand held seemed to confirm that view.
Thanks everybody for compliments! I would not like to use HDR as much as I have to do due to lightning conditions I often have to shoot. In this case it just was impossible expose the dark walls and nice colorful glass mosaics in the windows.
Philippe, I actually had to go there again since on first visit I used the 28ze, but I found that the shots I took in Sainte Chapelle with 21ze were so nice that I wanted to reshoot Notre Dame with 21 as well, even it did mean that I would again have to go and meet the 10000 tourists again...

I would be interested to know of your technique.
There are devices, which have some simple optics and allow LCD to be used as viewfinder, but camera can still be supported against your forehead. I use pruduct called LCDVF,
: http://www.lcdvf.com , which works the best for me since it has least magnification (2x), allowing me to compose better, since I can see the while frame at once. Otherwise products have even 3xmagnification and it's really difficult to see corners (all at same time).
