Very intriguing! I have the 100MP, but this 85 has me interested for it's different rendition.
I believe Zeiss is very aware of the character (including the shortcomings of this lens). It is a 'soft' lens both in contrast/colours and in bokeh compared to the other ZF's. Also not as critically sharp as say the 2/100 @1.4.
This is however what I believe Zeiss wanted it to be seeing it is a portrait lens and the trade off between a fully corrected lens and good bokeh. I've put the 2/100ZF up for sale* as I find it slightly too harsh for portraits (perhaps it's a matter of getting used to, as I'm sure I haven't done yet). People call the 2/100 the bokeh monster, but I'm not so sure, depending on distance between foreground (subject) and backdrop it can produce pretty harsh bokeh imo.
*I've set a highish price so no one is biting. Perhaps deliberately cos I know I will regret selling
The 85/1.4 images really show the smooth and beautiful bokeh of the Zeiss 85! They are gorgeous! Thanks to Zhangye and Rodluvan for showing them...*but must resist buying another lens*...
Looking good! Remember not to expect too much up close, but at 5-15m it can be awesome, and stopped to f/5.6 or f/8 down I don't know of a better lens.
Wow, really like the subtlety of that Sandycrane. Can't tell if it would've looked any different with another lens thos, but what does that matter.
Had you thrown in a still life white poodle it would've been even better.
Wonderful shots in the last couple of pages !
frezeiss, zhangyu - thank you !
Jae - the first shot from Switzerland is great, the misty one
frezeiss - vertical position shot looks great. Nice capture of atmospher
Gregg - Great you are shooting more ! #1, #3 are my fav. Regarding planar's bokeh. I am one of the few who actually like the planar's bokeh. I don't have Z version, only CY, but I gather they are pretty much the same except for slightly warmer rendition from Z versions. Here, a little bit of violation to the thread.
CY 50, 1.4
As everyone always says, bokeh is a highly subjective matter. If you like what you see, then there is no issue. If you don't like what you see, it does not matter if public opinion says it produces the most beautiful bokeh, or creamy or whatever. My 2 cents on this.
Rodluvan - Great shots from Istanbul with 1/4/50. Love the texture of mud you caught. I feel like I can touch it, not that I want to Portraits with 85 are stunning but, my most favorite is the security camera. Great eyes. I Your shot gives strange persona to the device.
Romain - Great detail from the 21. First shot, as someone else questioned, seems perspective corrected ? If so, to me, the distortion you get from the correction on the top structure is not worse correcting convergence. Love the leaves from the cemetery shot.
Wayne - Love that color. I am looking forward to see more !
Zhangyu - Love the b/w portrait. Miss focus (?) may actually made this shot get a little abstract feel to it.
50 p shots from Hawaii look great. Love the deep saturated look. Any polarizer used ?
davidrwilliams - Very elegant flower shot.
loosh - Lovely color.
Jim - Perfect ! Great capture of shaft of light on the hanging hay.
Ulff - Fun !
campyone - Welcome and congrats on your first post on this thread. Looking forward to see more. Lovely flower shot.
JulianDeLaRosa - Great composition on the two arches. Also like the bench shot. Nice B/W conversion.
Delatant - Gorgeous mystery. Very pretty.
Gary - Good to see your work here again. Love the color of fire.
martyn. - Good to see 2.8/25 shot here. Very sharp. Would love to see more.
Lieutenant Z - Love your color theme, as always. I have no idea how you do this with 100 mp. Great job.
sandycrane - Congrats on your 50. Very nice. Love the soft light enveloping the atmosphere beautifully.
IsleofGough - Really nice find. Who would have thought inverted ashtray can be this pretty. Really nice lighting.
Hexonxonx - Dramatic cloud. Very nice.
bpark42 - Great to see your work again. Beautiful shot. Love the stillness of snow versus dynamic movement of water.
