Here is a quick mock-up of what I mean with brightening the shadows a bit (brings the look a tiny bit in the direction of HDR). I don't have the original data or the correct composition, so I just faked it by doing the work on one copy, and scaling down the original to match in the other. I also brought the saturation up somewhat. I am not sure I have chosen a good balance here, but I guess you will understand my idea. I tried putting the photos side by side, but couldn't, so maybe save them and open next to each other.
Lars: The yellow sashes are so vivid, almost glowing in a sea of orange.
prosep: The white flowers made me think it was snowing on first glance
carstenw: Great shot of the foilage, it's beautiful
Uzay: The middle shot is my favourite, the architecture is very nice
Bob: Love the interplay of the ceiling arches in the last photo!
I think you are right, but I also don't know exactly.
I did notice that there are about as many leaves in the photo as pixels Okay, exaggerated, but maybe I am over-taxing the resolution by trying to depict such a complex scene. The water is also very unattractive. And I think the white flowers are a little over-exposed. And finally, although the photo looks sharp this small, in fact only the front layer of white flowers are sharp. The rest of the scene is slightly soft. The light had started to fade, and I didn't use enough depth of field as a result. Maybe that harms the rendering of the shot too. I am not sure. Maybe a combination.
carstenw, your first Friday evening shot is fabulous.
rji2goleez, excellent series, great details.
alkanphel, excellent BW conversion.
Makten, love the colors & details of the 2nd one.
jhapeman, although it looks like only left eye is in focus, it is a very nice portrait. Love the angle of view.
carstenw: I think that photo will look better at a large resolution, there's too much detail and compressing it so small just mushes the fine detail together.
prosep: Thanks, your photo is nice too, the DOF is so thin but just right.
akul: Interesting forest shots, is that moss in the last photo?
Hard to choose between so many distinguished shots. Still, those that stand out for my taste are Bob's first, Makten's first, Jeffrey's portrait, and Luka's first two. Well done all!

At the first look I was not impressed with this image, but the more time I spent looking at it, the more I like it. I my opinion the water is not at all unattractive.
Thanks Boris. I do like something in the shot, which is why I picked it out and posted it, but there is also something there which could be better. I know exactly where it is (close to Potsdamer Platz, in fact), so I will just go back and try again.
Here is yet another shot from last Friday evening. I was standing on a treeroot, which stuck out over the river, to get the shot. The root was quite smooth, and there was nothing to grab onto in case I should fall, so I was being quite careful. I lifted my camera to my eye, and my cellphone rang, with the ringtone I have set for my girlfriend. I had about a 10 minute conversation carefully balancing with a camera in one hand, and a phone in the other, standing with one foot over the river
I should probably have switched to the 100 MP. At the time, I visualized it with much more in the photo, but when I saw it on the computer, I knew it had to be cropped. This is less than a quarter of the original. At 100%, it has a strong aquarel look. Even at this size it still comes across.
