Most of these look massively oversharped to me. Sry to say. Colors and overall contrast looks great, but on the detail level it's --- much less than impressive. Am I do only one here really, this is like the 4th or 5th post from this nice carnival?
Thanks Luka. Funny, my girlfriend also liked #3, but I prefer #1 for some reason.
Your shot #2 is stunning! One of these days, we should organize a ZE/ZF/ZM print trade-a-thon, although I am not quite ready to print yet. I did pick up a ColorMunki, so hopefully soon I will be able to match my colours properly. Then I just need to pick a good paper, and start printing.
The reason for my more simplified graphical approach that I'm experimenting with right now is because at some point I realized that I would never ever want to print one of my landscape shots and put it on a wall. Online fine. In a photo book, fine. On a wall? Never. It would just be kitsch.
I'm speaking in general now, of the images above only the third one would possibly qualify for printing - in theory at least, although probably not in practice.
My printing success has been mixed. I just got back a large 100x70 cm print of this image and it was just awful. I had proofed it on a calibrated monitor with a correct printer profile but the end results were worse than I expected. The color gamut of the printer is so narrow compared to a wide gamut monitor that all the nuances have been lost. I have however been happy with some other prints.
I always wanted to complete my ZFs with one of their ultrawides and I went for the ZF18. Never shot any landscapes, these are my very first to get to know the lens:
Lovely portrait zesto.
Martynas, I'm very impressed with the whole set.
Gary I like the two last.
Looks like you had some fun at that construction site Luka, great photos to.
Carsten, my favourite is the first. I like the green winding lines the plant makes.
and I probably missed to comment on quite a few photos...
Gary thanks for sharing those great 35/f2 shots... finally got a chance to go out and shoot a few "winterscapes" here before the snow is gone for good. I'm liking the 35 a lot I think, so thanks to you and others for the input when I was pondering the purchase.
Bob - Love the 'garage band' shot. Also the last one, looking up, great point of view.
Valejo - Great photos of lush, potent nature. Love the tractor shot. Great job on humming birds, shot with 100, impressive!
Hugo - Beautiful, crisp landscape. Great carnival shots with 85. I enjoy the way how consistently you treated color on the carnival series.
Denoir - Great to see your photos more often on this thread again ! Really enjoy the abstract series. Great compositions. Wheel shot (pg 264) is brilliant. Great capture of dramatic lighting on constuction site at night. Reflection series was quite beautiful, especially liked the first one. And the #2 from the last set, soft diffused light through translucent material is def my fav.
Martynas - Great set of portraits. Their comfort level with you + lenses is creating strong intimate feeling. Quite playful and not pretentious. Beautifiul renditions of color and space. I tried to count my favorite and gave up. They are all my favorites !! Great ending, loose narrative thread in the set is quite effective.
Ruben - Great color.
Karelg - I love what you see and capture. Well of light on #1, light reflecting on pavement on #3, lone electrical box and rail on #5. strong diagonals on #6 caught my eyes strongly.
Carsten - Beautiful trio. I enjoy the beautiful natural tone of this set. Stone texture, s curve of plant, detail of plant skin on #2 and #3. Compositionally, #2 comes out quite strongly to my eyes, and yet #1 and #3 support the #2.
oldmiller - Stunning b/w landscape with 18. Beautiful images. Lighting and the sky on #2 is magical.
zeston - great catpure of flowers, love the #3 b/w portrait is quite lovely.
gary - Great shots with 35. #2 is slightly humorous, love the broom shot.
joakim - Love this series. great eye. I really enjoy your use of oof area in composition. Especially with #3 and #4
dj - congrats on 35. Great 'blah' to have every day. First two with the expanse of snow field is beautiful. Beautiful capture of tree and reflection on the river on the last one
