Thank you Morpheus. Shot with the 5D Mark II.

thanks. My 5dII must have a problem then. With ISO 6400 I get a lot of noise and it is amazing how little your images seem to have. If you don't mind I would love to see a 100% crop from a darker area of one of the images.

Great shot, MJWong. I really love it. I am thinking about getting 2/35 ZF version but I need to know how the new 1.4/35 performs first. Just wondering whether you added vignette for the image in your post? Thanks.

mshi: yeah, added a tad of vignetting in there using LR. I shoot a 7D so that doesn't happen naturally.

Phliber, I used to find most of your posted pictures interesting and enjoyable, but since you went the NEX way I am almost always untouched by them. Canīt put my finger on why, but they just feel a kind of.....boring maybe. Donīt want to be ruud, just wanted to express my perceived differences in your work.

kind regards,

Markus, I am afraid that I agree with you. After being accustomed to the 5DII, learning how to use the NEX has been a less-than-instant process. Learning the camera, then each lens. And, because I am one of the early users on this forum, displaying my progress (I call it that, you and others may disagree) for others to see. That type of display involves shots that exhibit certain features rather than prioritizing picture quality. I am sorry if this proves boring to you and others. I shall keep this in mind and refrain from such posts, as much as I can. And I shall post NEX pics on the NEX thread only.

Philippe - on the contrary I find the experimentation with the NEX to be interesting and I look at those images to learn what the camera lens combination can do. This thread need not only be a showcase for Zeiss but also one of experimentation!

I'll gladly post one later (I am out today) but I use the following technique to soften the noise in Lightroom. First I sharpen but use the masking slider holding down the 'Option' key focusing on sharp edges and not smooth areas of the image. Then the noise reduction in Lightroom I can use lightly to remove it a bit. I don't like to over use the NR in Lightroom and this technique has worked well.

thank you Bob. I am struggeling quite a lot with this noise problem on my 5DII. I am using LR almost exclusively, but also checked DxO recently, which seems to do a much better job than LR at NR. I will try your method though and see if that helps.

Kyle - Great to see film shots here. I like the snow covered tree shot.

Hugo - specatcular shots. You really know how to use UW angle. The sun rise shot is amazing.

In support for diversity, here is a shot with ZF21 + Novoflex adapter on NEX

I like you telling Hugo that he knows how to use a UW angle, akul. Like you don't... Sorry I can't duplicate your highly sucessful experiment, but not with ZE lenses....

Hoping that my pics get less boring as I get more pratice under my belt, NEX 5 + ZM 50mm Planar f:2.0. I confirm my early impressions. This is a seriously good lens as far as colours, contrast and sharpness, better than the 35 C Biogon f:2.8, except it no longer looks that weak on the 3D side of things.

Philber - Great shot. You photos were never boring IMHO. Shooting with NEX, I have been feeling that NEX images can get a little flat at times, especially with total overcast grey day low / no contrast lighting situation. FF censor camera, in my case D700, has quite a bit of dynamic range, and it has surprised me when shooting in those dreadful situation, images still can look quite interesting. With NEX, it is not so forgiving especially with subtle texture, like wood plank, concrete, or stone. I can only imagine the sophistication of circuitry that need to be enclosed in such a tiny space for NEX, more compromise had to be made compare to larger cameras. A lot to learn, still trying to figure out when it shines and when it fails.

Hugo, Philber
Thank you so much for your kind words. Seriously, UW is hard for me !! Especially, place like NYC, every 10 feet there is trash, 21 takes in sooo much and very hard to compose. Inevitably, I start to emphasize trash, because you can't avoid it anyway, ha ha. Also, with NEX, it was only about 30.5 mm, so that is no UW.

Bob - love the deep color of the door. Texture of the door on the second one is very nice.

rsolti13 - First shot and second shot makes really strong connection. Dead leaves on ground vs leaves swallowing lamp post. Great color and composition on both.
