Beud, there may be a cause or two to what you indicate. Most of my recent shots have been taken wih a NEX in LiveView mode rather than with a 5DII. This could make a difference, though I don't think so. A more important difference IMHO is that Bobu has taught me the importance of shooting before sunup and after sunset, on a tripod obviously. As such, those are dark scenes. Now a DSLR will compensate atomatically for this, and the picture may appear brighter than the actual scene, or one can push the shadows in post and lighten up the shot. I tend not to do this, and enjoy in some cases the advent of darkness, which is emphasized by the conversion to Web format. Such is the case with the last two shots I posted from Trianon.
Obviously you are free to feel otherwise and prefer lighter scenes, and I will keep your comment in mind....Show more →
I understand your choice but I think you could render dark pictures, but nonetheless with correct exposure. That's the case for the first B&W picture just posted by rji2goleez : the exposure is right (full dynamic range used, from white to solid black) but the brightness of the scene is low and suggests a rather dark environment.
But like you said it's just my personal taste and the only rule is that you obtain the result you have in your mind. Please continue posting your picture, you have a style of your own.
By the way great pictures everyone. Like the others I loved the portraits in the snow.
Joakim - thank you for your comment. I like the shot of bridge through fence the most too. I like the way how color gets sort of saturated in OOF area with 35f2.
teh-rebel - That shot of bridge is amazing. Great composite work too.
Hugo - Gorgeous light and composition. Great work ! I like the way how you cropped the last image, it feels quite cinematic. Very nice texture of soil.
Philber - Wondrful shots of Trianon. I feel that there is much less noise in the dark area in this series. Did you change your PP ??
Todd - Nice geometry. I think B/W works well. I wonder how it would feel if there was a little more of space above building included, or if the lower part of the shot was cropped a little bit, just because I feel the dramatic light part is mostly at the top part and could be more accentuated in that manner.
Bob- wonderful cafe shot. Love the shot with repeating red window shutter. Color on the last shot is quite beautiful. 1DIV - Is that new ?
photoArne - Beautiful series of unique abstract images. Third image on the first series is my most favorite. It is almost like a painting. Snow texture on the last series is also very beautiful. I love the M9 shot.
Malkovic - Amazing sky, bone chilling ice, and beautiful snow filed with foot prints. Those are my favorite. Foot prints make me wonder whether they symbolizes looking 'back' or 'forward'.
Uzay - I like the drama of the last shot. ( By the way, my computer had problem loading the second image. )
Philber - Aha, that makes sense. I agree, I see quite a bit of detail, not any less than previous setting but with much less or no noise. Congrats on finding the right recipe !

Thanks, Akul! Yes, I changed my PP in addiing just a touch of NR in LR (around 12). It does not seem to take any detail away IMHO.
@Philippe: In case you still use DPP for your 5Dmk2: NEVER ever use the NR function in that program. I once unknowingly changed the default luminance NR from 0 to 2 and for months I thought all my lenses (especially wideangles) were a lot less sharp when looking at 100% view. DPP's luminance NR destroys fine detail.
@Malkovic: Great shots, the first one is my favorite. Way to make an entry into this forum!
I would try to use a digital GND filter or something like that on the 2nd shot though, to make the sky look less "digital" (the yellow posterization).
