You're killing me with those 50MPs. I will likely hold off on a 35 till we see the new one. I have Canon's 35L in the mean time. So maybe it comes down to the 50MP vs the 85mm.
I think I've asked this before but are either one of these 'hand holdable'? If the 50MP is just like the 100MP, I would say, not really unless shooting at f/8.
I would say 35/2 or 50 MP would be the logical next step. Avoid the Planars until you run out of Zeiss glass to buy.
No but seriously, the Planars are excellent in some situations but they are not universally excellent. You should get the 35/2 (or perhaps the new 35/1.4 or both) and 50 MP before you go on Planar adventures.

The 50 MP is much more 'hand holdable' than the 100 MP and the 35/2 even more so. The 50 MP focus ring is very similar (albeit stiffer) to the one on the 100 MP (360 degrees focus throw). The rendering style of the 50 MP is also related to the 100 MP. The 35/2 is different. Because of that I'd say the best Zeiss trio is the 21/35/100. But who says you should stop at three?
Hey guys - thank you all for the advice. I guess if I went the 35/2 route I have to decide whether to keep or sell the Canon L. While it is f/1.4, it's a bit soft wide open but it's no slouch of a lens either and I want to keep some autofocus glass in the bag. Half the fun is deciding, the other half is buying. Of course, the third half? is owning!
akul, when shot wide open - f/5.6 or so at infinity there is very slight field curvature. It is all but gone at f/8. Very much more controlled than the 18/25/28
Bob, I try as well. When you step back and look most (9/10) Zeiss images just look better in color in my opinion. If you have good cloud definition that may have pushed me more towards B/W but not as is. Honestly though, fantastic either way!
As always - so inspired by your work - some of the best Architectural Landscape work I've ever witnessed. Thanks for making the Hi-Res available - off the charts!
Thanks,
Mark
