Sangee, if you want to see some portraits done in India, you can see the gallery I set up. Check the focal lengths: 50mm is ZE 50 f:1.4, 85mm is ZE 85. The other FLs are Canon. Faces from India
Hope this helps

Zeiss People,
I am considering buying a ZE 100 MP or ZE 85 or ZE 50 mainly for people shots to go with my 5d2.
Can I see some samples of People, fashion, beauty taken with these fantastic glass and as stunning as some of the pics in this post.
thanks in advance.
The 100 MP, unlike the other two is excellent at all apertures and distances. It's generally considered to be one of the best lenses Zeiss has ever produced. The 85 & 50 Planars on the other hand have certain limitations wide open and close up. Having said that, the 100 MP isn't exactly a forgiving lens for portraits as it's extremely sharp.
100 MP ZE will give you the most dramatic results and will be sharp wide open, and you'll find that it's useful for close focusing as well, since it's a makro.
85 ZE will give you neat results wide open, but won't be sharp.
If you go for a 50 spend and get the 50 MP it's a better portrait lens, IMHO
Philber : Love those Indian faces.
AhamB : great colors and wonderful pop ‘3D’, handles backlight very well.
Denoir : I hear great things about the 100 MP for portraits , that its an Arri design borrowed from high quality film optics, just hadn’t seen enough portraits though taken with the lens. IMO, the way the ooF and focus areas blend seamlessly is more imp., I am beginning to like the characteristic ‘Bokeh’ of these Zeiss glass ( as seen in the Flower shots here) as compared to the detail less smooth wash bokeh rendered by 85L and also the 80 R Lux ‘madler glow’ looks great in portraits….
Do you have a fashion, beauty shot in Van Gogh on LSD style....would love to see that!!!
Adamdewilde : You like the 50MP more? I always loved the macro function on the Nikon 105/2.8 for close portraits. It was one of my favorite portrait lens before I switched to canon.
Guys, .....so the 100MP looks very tempting as of now…..
I like the 50 MP better then the 50 1.4ZE the 100 MP ZE is my favorite.. But since I need to love all my lenses equally I've been trying to shoot with the 50 1.4ZE and 85 ZE a lot more. It's tough to not just grab the 50 MP or the 100 MP, but the more I use the 1.4ZEs the more I like what they do.. Haven't really touched the 21 since my vacation, but I really mean to use wide angle, I just need a reason. And the 35ZE has fallen out of favor for now..
I guess in the end sangee, you really just need to figure out what FL you'd be comfortable with.
Since the 100MP looks tempting, and you're tossed between the 3 lenses, pick the 100.. Nobody here dislikes it.
BTW, what's the deal with new lenses?
I'm thinking at this point I'd love to see a 180/2 or a 35/1.4
Philber, if I remember correctly you seem to have the lowdown, any news worth sharing?

Lovely shot, Paul. Great use of he 21's DOF.
+1, f/4 really makes the background just slightly blurred, nice!

Finally had time to shoot some makros. I planned to shoot with both Makro-Planars and few Carl Zeiss Jena M42 lenses, but somehow forget to shoot with 50MP. So I still haven't shoot makros with it, hopefully I do before the summer ends...
I noticed one thing, which has been bothering me slightly also earlier; if I shoot "traditional" makros with decent bokeh at f/8 100ZE images don't look anymore as brilliant as they do with larger apertures, they look as lifeless as Canon makros. Diffraction of course affects, at 1:2 and f/8 effective aperture is close to f/11. Could it be just diffraction?
Huovila 02 - Carl Zeiss Makro-Planar T* 2/100 @ f/3.5, 1/1250s, ISO 100
Huovila 03 - Carl Zeiss Makro-Planar T* 2/100 @ f/8, 1/320s, ISO 100
Huovila 04 - Carl Zeiss Makro-Planar T* 2/100 @ f/8, 1/250s, ISO 100
Huovila 05 - Carl Zeiss Makro-Planar T* 2/100 @ f/4.5, 1/100s, ISO 100
Huovila 07 - Carl Zeiss Makro-Planar T* 2/100 @ f/4.5, 1/800s, ISO 100
Huovila 08 - Carl Zeiss Makro-Planar T* 2/100 @ f/4, 1/1600s, ISO 100
Samuli, it seems to me that this set suffers from a colour cast, sort of yellow with a green tinge. Could this be what you feel makes your pics look lifeless?

Hmmm, I have to play around with the WB setting but this would be first time that "daylight"-setting in camera would have not worked on direct sunshine. The colors appear real (=as I remember them) on my screens (tested also iPad and laptop in addition to desktop). You might be right since typically too warm WB causes flatness/lack of 3D, while slightly cold may enhance these image qualities.
Luka, thanks - "Huovila 04" (2nd f/h shot) is least flat of the f/8 shots (I have about 100 of them, which I will not publish...), it also was shoot on less magnification = effective aperture closer to f/8 = less diffraction, so maybe this is why this looks less flat. Most shots between f/2 and f/5.6 were having all qualities I'm used to get from 100ZE. However at 1:2 I really would like to use f/8-11 to gain more DOF - well have to see what can be done, maybe some sharpening at full size before processing for print or web and local contrast enhancement in order to compensate diffraction - sounds boring, time wasted on sitting in computer, maybe on winter...
Samuli, I used the butterflies in your pics as a WB reference. These are common in France, and I used to collect them, so I know exactly what colour they should be...

Sangee,
The 100 MP looks really nice and I think it would make an excellent portrait lens. I myself did lots of research on it and it looks as delicious as Leica at F2. Just depending on the subject, I'd be thinking of getting a Heliopan Zeiss Softar 1 or 2 filter with it for portraits.
Here are some example (I couldn't read it , but understood enough and pictures tell the story of thousand words!):

Philippe, they were different butterflies. The green one is "Gonepteryx rhamni", and it looks pretty similar color on this web page (of course these butterfly people know nothing about colour management so you cannot trust the page 100%): http://www.luontoportti.com/suomi/fi/perhoset/sitruunaperhonen.
There may also be variations of the colour of the butterfly; on this UK webpage the green butterfly is almost white, and in Finland they definitely are more green than white.
Of course it's possible that I have not identified the species correctly, I'm not very experienced on this stuff. I tried also cooler WB, but the flatness/lifeliness didn't disappear from the f/8-11 pictures, and f/2-f/5.6 photos there were no change, except in this aspect.
