Oh these are so lovely. These shots make me miss my planar 50. What was the aperture used? My guess is 2.8 -3.2?
Luka
Thanks, Luka! The first three were at f/2 and the fourth was f/2.8. I love this lens too. I bought it here from a fellow FM member and have been enjoying it the past three weeks. Yesterday I picked up the Zeiss 50/2 MP and can't wait to put it through its paces. I will enjoy comparing it to the 50/1.4.

The flowers in the large pot by our front door died and dried up. I was just experimenting with the 50/1.4 Planar ZE wide open at its closest focusing distance. (cross posted in the other Zeiss lens thread)
Finally saw this on a real monitor. I am reminded that the swirl of planar can be really wild. The characteristics is such the bokeh, and rendering changes so dramatically with this lens. This is part of the charm of the lens, but it is wild.

Yes, you really have to see that image large to get the feeling. It is pretty wild as you say. What a lens though!
Nice images above with the 100MP. I think it's next in my list.

Very nice lens...but it's not for all. Some here hated it and bashed it to death., while some loved it and will kill anyone trashing it. .
It IS a nice lens. The focus shift makes it challenging to use. I actually like the challenge. It makes shooting a little more interesting and thoughtful. However, I think I may like the 50MP a little more. It's more versatile with it's close-up ability and doesn't have focus shift. I love the colors and sharpness of both these 50s.

Most people here say focus shift... but in my experience and on my copy it's always spot on. same with 85 planar.
for me it's either misfocused [ whole image is blurry ] or correctly focused on my intended spot.
