p.1 #1 · Emotions of the Game

I recently attended a seminar conducted by a sports photo-journalist who focused not on the action but the emotion of the game. Based on what I picked up from the seminar - here is a few pics for review / comment.

Any suggestions for saving pics to the smaller file size as defined in the forum rules?

Suggestions for saving to a smaller size? Hard to give you a specific method for saving them without knowing what software you're using. Just resize them to 600-800px on the longest side and edit the post with the resized images. Either way, this is an extremely important part of digital photography so it's probably best to figure it out soon.

Best I can tell from scrolling side-to-side to view these, they are way over processed. Too much NR (?); none of them are sharp. First one definitely doesn't work...no face. Second one sort of works, but it's a big stretch. Third one could work, but we barely notice the guy with the trophy is on crutches. IMO, those crutches are as important to that image as the trophy and other player, but we barely see them.

Keep working at it.

First pic: crop out the guy to the upper left corner...too distracting and takes away from the subject: the guy in the crutches (you scan an image from L to R)...

These appear to have had the detail wiped with noise reduction and then oversharpened.

As to content - the last one of the first set (large images) is the best to me.

Assuming opanda IExif is reporting correctly, it looks the the first 2 were taken at 1/4000 and f5.6/f8. I cant tell the ISO...

I would think if you WERE using a higher iso setting (judging by the noise), you could certainly trade off some of the SS? perhaps they are just over-sharpened, not over NR- I cant tell.... Im sure the pros here will be able to help on the technical side....

Ignoring the technical issues:

The emotion of the 1st photo would be stronger if the shot was a bit wider and we realized that curved bar in the lower right is actually a crutch (not part of the stands as I first thought).

I like the 3rd best.
