I use the focus preset quite often. For example when in my blind, I'll set the lens focus preset on a branch near a bird bath. Then I'll look around for other shots and if a bird lands on the branch near the water I'll turn the ring and the lens snaps into focus. My camera is usually tripod mounted when I am shooting from the blind.

Thanks guys, it works just as described. Will have to incorporate its use on the soccer field this spring. I can now see the advantage.

Regards,
Matt

Looks like CF III / 2 on the 5Dii
It would be better if the CF system were "universal" but if I were in charge, no doubt I'd make some pretty weird decisions, too.

It's very handy for sports photography.

Wow! I didn't notice that the 5D2 having this feature as well. The 40D and 5D1 has it... Gotta read the manual again.

... or simply go thru all the menus. That's the thing I don't really get: not reading the manual is one thing ("real men don't do that") - but at least scroll thru all the menus, no?

I do scroll through the menu but the labels tend to be technobabble until it is brought up in FM then it becomes "sense" to me.

I was able to toy among the selectable option I find most useful it would be the quick selection of One-Shot AF to AI-Servo AF. I've always wanted that option when I take photos of birds.
