Capture looks OK although I'm not sure why you didnt bump the ISO and shoot maybe f4.
I dont find a particular focus of interest in the composition. I get drawn first to the darker vegetation mid-screen and I like the alternating lighter and darker tones but not much else to catch my eye. The small amount of brighter rocks lower left pull my eye away from the center.

Good crit(ique)! Thanks man.

My camera's usable limit is 200 ISO. there is 400 and 800 but this is a "bridge" camera from 6 years ago so unless I intentionally want heavy grain - which is like never, I have to keep it at 200 or below. I'd say 95% of my photographs are taken at ISO 64. Another reason I always have a pod with me. I'm used to it though - for over 20 years of film shooting 80% of it was 25 ASA Kodachrome.

And I think you saw what I was trying to deliver. I was mostly going just for the texture of the hill-side foliage. I would have even been perfectly happy cropping out the river, road, and sky if I thought there was enough resolution to do so.

Anyway, thanks again for taking the time to write your thoughts on the image! Very appreciated and useful!

I like this a lot! I would, as you suggest, crop out some of the river and I would push the contrast a bit with some burning of the sky and the trees, especially at the top of the hill, so that the "subject" is clearly the hillside. It looks like you have plenty of pixels. My version is below. Please let me know if you'd prefer that I take it down.

Nice work!!

Jeff

No, leave it up! My images are OK to use for any non-commercial slash non-military use.

Shisuikaku Toufuya Hotel and Sasado Onsen (public bathing). Yahagigawa is the name of the river.

Here's the map image: http://www.japanican.com/hotels/accessmap.aspx?st=5521001#shisetsumenu
Or satellite imagery: Seen Here Actually about 10 min. north of this spot but the map didn't have any hi-res imagery so I pointed it a little down stream.
