Hi Ron,
I saw your post and I did test it but overlooked posting it. Well in mRAW I got to about 40/41 images before the buffer started to fill up the it continues to shoot more images at a slower rate. In sRaw when buffer fills up it also continues to shoot but at a slightly faster rate.
and in Normal raw the clearing of buffer is the slowest.
Remember that I was only using Sandisk Extreme 4, I presume using the Sandisk Pro series it would be faster again as those cards are twice the speed of my extreme 4.
Cheers
Perry
Thanks Perry, I appreciate you taking the time to check this.

Perry, nice update with the the sequence of your son running!
You make the poor guy run the same stretch over and over again
I just got the Mk IV myself, hope to get some nice pictures soon!

Very Nice. The tough tests will come for subjects that have low contrast, are backlighted, or have distractions where the camera could lock onto something else.

I really don't expect that to happen though.
I did try shooting some see gulls and camera setting was set to using all the focus points and the pictures turn out reasonably good but I need to carry out more testing

Actually the 'real' test is when the MKIII and the MKIV are tested side by side as Galbraith did with his MKII/MKIII tests.
As it stands Perry has some posted some promising results (and thanks for doing that) but as far as being accepted as a scientific paper we are not quite there yet.
Let's face it, Canon would have to be a complete bunch of morons to repeat their mistakes of the MKIII all over again. I bet they took some early production models and gave them a complete torture test just 'to be sure, to be sure' (as they say in Ireland).

I totally agree with you Kevin, however it appears to me they have done a fine job with this camera so far. I always felt that there were little things that annoyed me with the last 1 series was that they did not include the hi res LCD and the ability to read fast UMDA cards. I think in this model they not only have address the focus but all the little things that you would expect from a 1 series

GREAT set of images Perry! My "whistle" is wet with excitement to receive this body.
By all indications it should handle "feathered flying" subjects well!
I thanks you for going to the time to do all this for everyone!
Happy New Year!

Perry.. congrats on the purchase, also.. people complaining about the egret shot being out of focus.. I figured out how I could help.. send the camera to me in south florida because you know our egrets here are much sharper.. I will do further testing for you so you don't have to go through the bother of testing for everyone.. I know its hard work! (I have a feeling that's not going to work!)
anyways.. its great to see you out doing tests... now shoot some BIF sea eagles would ya!!

Looks god there but that's what I'd call a full AF test. Not many sports involve a single person running in straight line (even a 100m will have other subjects at play). Something like football, rugby etc is a far more testing arena, as it wildlife with most subjects moving far more erratically.
This was always my complaint with the frankly rubbish ProPhotoHome AF tests.
I'd expect a 40D to perform well in the test above, let alone a 1D. And without any sort of reference (say a 1D III) it tells us little (nothwithstanding the effort put in by the OP).
Re: the sportshooter thread above - does anyone think the wrestling shots are really noisy even at that tiny size. I can't see the ISO but they must have been high.
I still think Canon will have nailed the AF on this body though.

The wrestling action shots ranged from 8000 - 12800.

cheers

Reading the thread with interests.
What matters to the Servo is the ratio between the radial speed and the distance. Whether the photographer can maintain the lock is also important. To me, my dream shot is a dragonfly in flight in close distance. Dragonflies have an interesting behavior. They would stop in the air momentarily, then move fast to another stop location. Neither AI-servo (while moving) nor one-shot (while stopped) can capture them. I thought 1Ds2 could do it. No luck yet. ( Lars, I know you got it )

So true Pondria!!!! Also the background "conflict" when "handing off" AF points also has left allot to be desired. Not forgiving at all for sharp images.
I have noticed in the many "demos" posted by sports shooters on different forums that there is never a mention of how the shots were taken, ie AI Servo? One Shot?, what AF points in use, what, if any, custom features for AF...??
I guess we will know soon enough.
Dan
