I've got a 5D I'd be willing to get shaved and I've read that somebody named Son M. Pham does it but how do I get in touch with him (her)? I've been lusting after the Lux 35 but I'm a bit squeamish about doing my own grinding.

Hey Dan, after you shaved yours enough to fit the Lux 35, how much did you see it in the viewfinder?
I only saw it in the viewfinder with the 100mm APO macro elmarit. Not with the 90mm. It only showed as a very slight darkening at the top of the viewfinder image, very slight.

zombii: The newer version Lieca 19mm requires mirror mod
I have both the summicron 35 and Elmarit 35
Bokeh and color on the cron's definitely look better.
However, the geometric distortion is noticeable on the cron vs almost distortion free on the Elmarit 35.
The cron's gives you a more 3D look for close up shots while the Elmarit 35 is a bit more flat.
I hardly use the Elmarit 35 since I either need faster lens or wider for landscape. My choice tends to go for the crons and the Elmarit 28mm for my shooting style.
Interesting comments, Sam. My choice also tends towards the crons (35, 50 & 90), while I usually reach for a Distagon 28/2.8 for 'traditional' landscapes. I'm on the lookout for an Elmarit-R 28/2.8 E55, ideally pre-ROM, to compare with the Zeiss.
A year ago you could have used mine (R 28 latest) for testing... ;> Great lens, so much so have owned it twice - despite fact I almost never shoot that wide. In terms of center sharpness wide open, the Nikon 28mm/2.8 Ais is very close.
Hey Jim. Nah, got it out of my system. I rarely shoot that wide that often to justify the $$. Might look for another 35/2 R at some point however. Thanks to you however (and my 120/4 this a.m.) am thinking of an (M645) 80/4 macro... :>

There are a lot of good quality 28's out there - why is the price of the R 28 E-55 so high?
Just not many available? The last one I watched sold for $1,450.00 usd with a lot of bidders.
The R 35 & 50 E-55's are wonderful lenses - best in their class but much more respectively priced - I don't see many of them available either.
I don't understand it either, Mark, but I think Dan's point is dead accurate. It really only has to make sense to the buyer.
And I couldn't agree more about the 35 'cron. Except for a brief couple of weeks when I was trying out the Zeiss 35/1.4, it hasn't left my bag since I picked it up from you. Hell, it hardly ever leaves my camera mount.
I used Leica R-lenses at Sony A7R2
1. Leica Elmarit-R 28mm F2.8 V2 E55 (sold out due to financial issue)
moderate sharpness that compatible or closer to the best modern 28mm such as Sigma 28mm F1.4 for Sony art that I used. Similar character and sharpness to 35mm R.
2. Leica Elmarit-M 28mm F2.8 V4 E46 (sold out)
moderate sharp but less impressive than R version, but better than asph (D39) lens on Sony system
due to the larger diameter (D46)
3. Leica Elmarit-R 35mm F2.8 V3 E55 (still using)
most lovely image ever used and good sharpness
4. Contax 28mm F2.8 MMJ (still using)
moderate sharp and crisp image with micro-contrast
5. Contax 35mm f2.8 MMJ (sold out)
lovely image even not sharp like 35-70mm F3.4 MMJ that I am still using
