p.1 #1 · CPL for Outdoor Portraits

Hi

Has anyone had experience using CPL's for Outdoor Portraits?

I would like to use f/2 outdoors but concerned about maxing the 1/200 X-Sync Speed on my 5D. (HSS doesn't seem to work well for me using my cheapo Ebay Triggers)

I tried a 6 stop Neutral Density filter - that was a disaster. It sounded good in theory but in practice it was so dark the camera couldn't focus with my 85L II

My concern is the CPL might eliminate the catchlights off the eyes?

What they often do is eliminate the highlights from the skin. I think they cancel out the sheen caused by facial oils. Sometimes the look isn't bad, sometimes skin ends up looking like old leather. You tried a 6-stop ND and it was too dark. What did a 3-stop one do?

Probably looking for a 'warming polariser' as a normal one will make thinks a bit cold.

Sing-ray have one, but expensive. You can also search for a 'moose filter' on ebay ...
