ok,
can somebody with the above cameras who use this function explain the pros and cons using a manual lens with liveview, mainly perhaps the N1424.
iam loving this lens, but finding i real dificult to focus for landscapes due to the lack of distance markers etc. what ive done sofar is to make a crude mental note of where two items meet, such as, if the 1m marker is in between the 24mm part of the logo and iam shooting f11@14mm then iam good to go for great dof.
though i havent worked out of focal legnths or f stops.
my understanding with live view is i can just zoom around and focus untill i get what i want in focus. is that true

It's true. Though, if you're using focus confirmation on a chipped adapter, that's disabled. But you shouldn't need it. The 5DII is a little easier to focus in this manner because of the higher resolution screen, but the DsIII isn't difficult to focus in this manner. My experience is that wide angles tend to be harder to get absolute focus in general than normal or telephoto lenses, but just by a bit.

Yes that's right. You can get the mag up to 10x. It works great if you're on a tripod, mixed and/or difficult otherwise although I'm sure everyone has their opinion/experience to offer.

Yes and besides that, what you see is what you get. The image you see is on the sensor, not projected on a screen, so no focusing errors. The added bonus is that while working in live view mode, you don't need MLU anymore.

Tripod mounted, liveview is fantastic. Remember though, that it keeps the sensor hot, which increases noise levels. I compose and focus, and then shut the liveview down for the final shot.
Otherwise, it still has a few benefits, but holding it with your arms outstretched while focusing is a little strange. Good for weird angles, or holding above your head type thang.

One little added tip which is more apropos to AF lenses is to not forget about the DOF preview button. I just find sometimes I really want to see how much I have in focus at a given aperture and the Live View screen is only seeing through the lens wide open. I also use MF lenses (Pentax and Olympus) but with those you can have the aperture stopped down during live view so it is a bit easier.
