p.1 #1 · LP-E6 alternatives??

Are there any LP-E6 battery alternatives that:

  1. Have the battery chip to communicate with the cameras like 5DII and 7D
  2. Work with the Canon supplied charger

The ones listed on Amazon do not have either and are therefore supplied with their own charger. An pointers or do I need to plunk down 70$ for a battery Thanks for your help.

The one from Lenmar is supposed to be chipped. The price is still pretty high for aftermarket. http://www.lenmar.com/Web/ProductSummary.aspx?LenmarSKU=DLCE6

on the basis that BH are doing them for $69 why spend $79 on a knock off?

The maximalpower LP-E6 alternative from Amazon are available at $21.95. And they really work.

The Amazon listing says its a Synergy battery and the store that sells it also states the same. "Comments: OUR BRAND IS SYNERGY, 2000mAh, HIGH QUALITY WITH A 3 YR WARRANTY. FITS LPE6 WITH CHARGER ".

Fred, does your battery say MaximalPower on it? I can't find it on the Maximalpower site.

If you check e-battery place that sells on the above amazon link it comes with a charger on their own website and they say it doesn't charge with the canon charger.

Darn it looks like I'll have to shell out for a real canon battery :P

All the aftermarket chipped batteries I've seen verified by users as being true "workalikes" to the Canon battery have not been much less expensive than the current prices of the Canon battery.

...and the price appears to be the initial test of whether a battery is chipped. Chippped batteries are not dirt-cheap regardless of source.

dont suppose it will be too long before companies like sterlingteck and the like get viable chipped versions at a good price. Now we have the 5d2 and the 7D using the same battery i think any other consumer grade canons (3D & 60D) could use the same as well.
Cant see the big copiers just knocking off the 511-A for ever

Yes, the batteries are the same as shown on the picture, they do say Maximalpower on them, do not come with a charger, can be charged with the original Canon charger, and DO communicate with the camera, reporting number of shots and percent of use.

Sent an email to Maximalpower asking where I can buy the battery and if it is chipped. This is what I got back;
We are currently out of stock for LP-E6, sorry.

Agree. It took them two years to copy the BP-511. It hasn't taken as long to copy the LP-E6, but it may take a while to do it at a price point to make buying a 3rd party battery overwhelmingly attractive to a large enough market.

I was lucky and purchased a chipped non OEM battery on e-bay about 6 months ago for $17. (At that time the Canon batteries were going for $90) Yes, it is fully compatible, shows charge % and all those other good things and does charge in the Canon charger. However, a few days after I ordered mine they said they had "supply" problems and stopped selling them.

Hmm

Thanks Fred, but this is confusing now. Your link shows the Maximal power, but says Synergy in their description. If I search the e-battery storefront at Amazon, the Maximal power does not show up.

I could still try it but the experiment will be worth ~27$ USD. If it does not work and I have to return it, I will be out at least 10$; may be a little bit more...

I will probably just wait for a while.

Update....MaximalPower does not even list the LP-E6 on their site any more. Email from them confirms, but does not offer a reason.

Although I cringe every time I buy a Canon OEM battery, it's money well spent in my opinion. Too many horror stories about the knock-offs. You can get by with cheaper lenses and tripods but no battery=no takey picture.
