One of my favourite photos of 2009 is this panorama I took at the Lake Clifton Thrombolites in Western Australia. Thrombolites are one of the earliest known life forms on Earth.
On this night, I was lucky enough to have been here just as the moon raised shortly after sunset which gave me a few more hours to shoot at the lake, also some cloud started to roll in as I shot this panorama, about 30 mins later it became overcast and the cloud blocked the moonlight, so I ended up packing up and heading home. This panorama is the result of three one minute exposures and stitched together.
Since I can only post one photo in this thread, I can't show you the view facing the other direction, but you can see the other panorama with a bit more cloud cover here:
Here's my meager contribution to this thread. This was a retake for me of a photo I took a year prior. It's about an 60 frame 180 degree HDR pano from the top of Mauna Kea in Hawaii.

Dentxr: Took me awhile to get back here. Busy developing my road trip images. I did offer my comment in a positive sense. Maybe expressed it poorly. I gave an impressionistic view. Bifurcator has it right, though -- your image conjures a prehistoric time.
Happy Holidays to both of you.
Sorry, but for some reason, I'm a little slow up in the noggin' nowadays. Happy Holidays to you gentlemen too!
After reviewing some of the images on your Web site (from Mountains & Forest 2), I believe you have plenty to offer the rest of us, even if only by illustration. I found most of your images quite striking and appealing. You appear to have mastered exposure, and I like all your image compositions. You have an eye and a talent.
Please post more. Not all FMers follow Web links. I'd suggest "Fall, Quinault Rainforest" for starters. Never saw anything quite like this one before.
http://abidally.com/mp/FM/Nilaveli%20Dawn%20Blue%20and%20Gold.jpg Dawn in Eastern Sri Lanka during the height of the last days of the war between the Sri Lanka Government forces and the LTTE. This was about 30 km away from where the fighting was and I could faintly hear the shelling in the distance. I dedicate this image to all the people who lost their lives in the senseless 30 years of war but I am sure glad that peace has now returned to our beautiful country and we can travel the roads without fear of terrorists and bombs.
djfournr: Your image of a storm in South Africa has that look of prehistoric time which I find so appealing. The delicate vertical string of lightening adds a special touch. It goes well with the stormy cloud cover, and unites the whole image by joining sky to Earth.
ziyadj: Time stands still in your dramatic image of the boat and boatman in the waterway among hills and pinnacles.
Sashi: The colors and contrast in your coastline image offer a visual satisfaction. I like the way you left the sea horizon in the frame. It defines the promontory nicely.
Wow, these are some awesome shots on this thread, so much talent The winter, fall, and lightning pictures make me jealous, so I hope my Hawaii ones make all you jealous lol j/k...
Between my top two favorite shots, one is a cityscape and one is a landscape, it makes it easy to decide which to post
I took this shot in December from the top of Diamond Head Crater looking down on the Diamond Head Lighthouse
Thanks for the inspiring work to all who posted!
