p.1 #1 · Bab Al Shams - Desert Resort Hotel x 7 photos

I couldn't sleep, so took a trip out to the desert for a coffee at sunrise. Here's Bab Al Shams Hotel, 35km into the desert from Dubai:

1. Dunes by the driveway

I love the DOF on the first one. Combined with the wind its a pretty dreamy shot.

The hotel looks fantastic. I will Google it but Its probably out of my price range

It's a nice place and a good bolthole from the city for a weekend away. Jumeirah Group owns the hotel, along with the Burj Al Arab, Jumeirah Beach Hotel and some others. Generally people do a multi stay and combine a few days in the city with a few days in the desert (where you can go on camel safaris, see falconry displays etc)

It is pretty pricy if you're paying the rack rate (which us expats have to) but they've been heavily discounting rooms when combined with flights for visitors recently.

I've stayed there once and it was OK, but we're spoilt for choice with 5* and higher hotels! You get a bit of the desert experience, but you're still a bit too close to the city. Google Al Maha Desert Resort and a new one which is called Qasr Al Sarab - both are really really stunning!

I'm bummed that I didn't take my 70-300mm with me (just popping out for a drive and coffee) as it's the first time I've come across Oryx (a large horned antelope like animal) in the wild, with a family of them wandering around on the dunes. In Al Maha they come to drink from your private infinity pool in the morning though!
