Empire, thanks for finding that image - cool comparison. So when we have been saying that the 35/1.4 has a medium format look, we weren't mistaken. I actually prefer the softer bokeh of the Contax to the 80/2.8.
I wonder if the perceptional differences of the image would change if they were taken from the exact same spot. I think they would.
Also, the Rollei and the Contax have some very subtle differences, I wonder how a Rollei would stack up against the Hasselblad.

A comparison of a Hasselblad with 80mm and a 5d with Contax 35/1.4 cropped to square. It's a good comparison since the 80mm behaves as a 40mm f/1.4 bokeh/depth of field-wise.
The 80 is the MF standard lens, so it would be more like 45-50mm (the 60mm would have been closer), and not quite f/1.4, more like f/2. The more detailed boke would confirm this. Too bad the cameras weren't pointed in the same direction (look at the fallen tree on the right). It would have been a bit easier to compare the backgrounds. I guess he had the two cameras side-by-side.
As an aside, I have the Hasselblad 110/2 on a 5D2 until Friday (then I get my D3 back, and give the 5D2 back). I wanted to get out and make some shots today, but ended up having no time for it. Tomorrow?
Depending on what you use as the metric for comparison (vert aov, diagonal aov, horiz aov), the 80mm lens on 6x6 is equivalent to a 34mm, 43mm or 51mm lens on 35 mm format according to Hasselblad (who have a 55x55 film gate).
The correct 'normal' focal length on any format is the diagonal of the film / sensor. For 35mm format the true neutral standard lens is a 43.3mm
For 6x6 (56mm x 56mm) the actual diagonal is 79.2mm.
Yes, 135 is the odd one out here, but clearly the 80 is no 35. Only the most deviant of arguments would make a slightly long standard lens a wide angle. The aperture conversion was also off.
Thanks Paul! Interesting observation - I've never used the C/Y 100 Planar. I've found the 35/1.4 to be quite different from the 100 MP ZE in its rendering.
Here's the latest rev of the shot I posted on the AIT. Who says you can't use the Rollei version stopped down without getting some peculiar highlights?
Anden The last one is truly great !. I love very much the colors and composition, lighting and 3D are very nice as well. Did you use a reflector or sth ?
