After being inspired by the images, information and discussion in this thread I acquired a zf.2 35mm 1.4 and so far I am really enjoying it with my D800. It really produces beautiful images and I think as I improve my technique, it will be a source of great photographic enjoyment for me.
I have been using it mostly at f1.4 and I feel thats where the magic is with this lens (for me atleast).

Love the look of these. Perfect examples of the 35.
How did you damage the rear element?
thanks, it was like that when i bought it. i believe the original owner (who occasionally posts here) got it in that condition as well, but i'm don't recall for sure.

Interesting. First time I've seen coating marks affecting image quality.
Is the onion effect from the coating marks as well?
the onion bokeh is due to the molded aspherical element. coating marks on the rear element will usually show up in bokeh balls, but marks on the front element will not.
I'll have to check my photos but the onion bokeh seems very pronounced as well as the shoe horn mark at the top of thr ring. What mark is on the rear element?

they are two big scuffs next to each other near the center of the rear element radiating out. my processing (lots of added vignetting darkening the bokeh balls) has made them more obvious than the soc shots where they were very hard to see.
