This first shot is from 1979, Devo lead singer Mark Mothersbaugh at the Agora Ballroom in West Hartford, CT. I was shooting at stage front with my Olympus OM-1, probably a 105mm lens.
Last night I was crushed in the crowd about 30 feet back from stagefront at the Fillmore at Irving Plaza, New York City. Sometimes I just love setting the D3 at ISO 2000 and firing shots. Using the 70-200 VR on there, making sure the short guy in front of me knew I was going to use his head as a human tripod (well, "bi"-pod) occasionally. Was a tiring and sweaty 70 minutes, but got a ton of great shots, here are a few.
Thanks, Dneufarth. I still have negatives from shows back then, someday I have to get me a good scanner and a few spare weeks and bring them all back to life!
It is interesting to see the 1979 image and the 2009 image together.
Thanks for sharing them here.
And...I think it is interesting to see them STILL in the original costumes too.
I bet "Whip it" ("Crack that Whip!") got the crowd crazy!
And...for anyone who has not seen this original video from that time...or for those who don't know the band...here's the link to the video of one of their hits from that time...

Their bizarre style and lyrics and music was refreshing (to me) after enduring the 70's pop music and disco...America's New Wave....of the late 1970s...
One of my favorites from that time....the beat fast...great dance music ....

Cool photo's. Amazing that it's been 30 years since their heyday....wow.
Also amazing the contrast between being a young 20 something and wearing a flowerpot on your head and being an older 50 something with a flowerpot on your head.
Thanks for the comments, glad I could stir some memories.
Yes, truly makes me feel old (and I'm only 50) sometimes when I can say:
"I saw "The Pretenders" in concert when all 4 were still alive!"
"I saw Van Halen *open* for Ozzy and Black Sabbath!"
"I saw AC/DC before Bon Scott died!"
