OK...first post ever tot he Wildlife board. I mainly shoot sports, a few weddings, and senior portraits. But, this was to unique for me ...
I was in St. Mary's, MD (Lexington Park) for a basketball game. On my way to the game Friday night, I met a deer....or should a I say a deer met me on the roadway. So Saturday, needless to say that afternoon I was a slightly more observant to the surroundings. On the way to the gym, I was scannig the fields and wooded areas around this rural road....and I saw this guy sitting about 5 yards off the road.....I pulled off, grabbed the camera and fired a few shots....changed my lens and backed the car up...as I did, he flew straight up...I got out of car and managed to fire of a few more shots.... WIsh I had the 300mm close, but had to make do with what was within reach.
I have the utmost respect for bird and wildlife photographers....must admit it was a neat rush of adrenaline watching this beauty.....
Wow, you did get lucky with this guy, you were close! Nice job on him in the tree. I see that you started out at really ISO and had the presence of mind to drop it The flight shots could us more light under the wing but against that sky..... I think you did a really good job shooting this guy. I'm sure your heart was pounding Stop by more often with shots like these.
Thanks again for those that took time to look and comment...yeah, Ted, the high grey sky was tough and obviously did not dial in enough compensation quick enough.... I was so excited to see something other than sports to shoot...ha....again, great respect for the photographers on this board....
