I do a lot of websites and have only ever had the 20D (I plan on buying the 5D2 in the new year).
I have always tried to maintain similar dimesions for photos accross all my websites to keep layouts pixel perfect.
Never having used other Canons I didn't realise that not all models have the same dimensions (which was really silly of me).
This makes it a hassle because I found out one guy has a Digital Rebel & Canon 5D and if he uploads resized photos to the website I have created he will mess up my layouts.
I take it the 5D & 5D2 have the same dimensions and all the crops, 20D, 30D, 40D, 50D 7D are similar to each other?
Huh? All Canon DSLRs have the same aspect ratio, which I think is what you are talking about. The sensor sizes are different, and of course, the total image size is different in each cam due to different resolution, but all should resize the same. If you tell any Canon DSLR to have the long edge at 600 pixels, all should resize to 400 pixels on the short edge. That is, all Canon DSLRs (and all Nikon, and all Sony...pretty much all DSLRs except 4/3, which has a 4x3 aspect) have a 2x3 aspect ratio.
When rezising to particular sizes, you still specify the dimensions, 600x400, 1800x1200 etc. The size of the sensor ratio is still all the same whether FF/35mm Digital, 1.3x Crop or 1.6X Crop, all are still 3x2, so resizing is no different.

You need to do a bit more studying up. The camera's sensor size, resolution and cropping have nothing whatsoever to do with what size shows up on the web. Any image taken with any camera can be sized to whatever web-appropriate dimensions you want. I've sized images from a 5MP Canon A95 to the same width (1200 pixels) as images from a 21MP Canon 5D II with no difficulty.
To add to the above replies (which are all correct)...if your ultimate use for the images is for web-display only, there's little reason to get a 5DII unless you need some of the new features for other reasons.
