I'll be going to NYC for Thanksgiving and I wanted to take my D300 w/grip, 70-200, 18-70 and maybe the 12-24 with me. I currently have the 6 million dollar bag by Crumpler and the Tenba Shootout bag. I'm looking for a bag that will allow me to take all the gear mentioned above. With my current bags I can take some, not all. I was leaning towards the 7 million dollar bag and the kata 3 in 1 Sling Backpack. Does anyone have experience with either of those bags with similar gear posted above. Thanks!
I'm not sure if 70-200 would fit into a crumpler 7... I have the bag but not the lens but with my 24/70 its a close fit. I usually have the lens hood on the lens.
You'd be able to fit everything in to a Think Tank Urban Disguise 50. I have the 70-200, 24-70 and a D700 with MB-D10 and when I'm going on a short trip I throw them in to my UD50 along with an SB600, Lightsphere and 1.7TC and some gels for the flash and still have room left to spare for my computer. I figure that the 12-24 should take up about the same space as my other gear so you may just but that under a flap with the 24-70 on top of it and vertically and then next to that the 70-200 vertically oriented and then the gripped camera body in the remaining space in the padded section or you can put the body in one o the unpadded front pouches.
I just got the Crumplet 7MDH for a similar kit (with a D90, 17-55/2.8, 70-200/2.8, 12-24/4, and sb-900). It works WONDERFULLY, and is comfortable for lots of walkaround shooting!
I also previously purchased and regularly use a Kata 3n1-30 bag. I trekked most of Yosemite, San Francisco, Monterey, and Seaside CA with that bag earlier this year in July... it's fantastic for fast access with tremendous storage capacity. I kept a change of clothes, a GPS unit, some bottled water & pop tarts in the bag, and a Manfrotto 190xdb Pro tripod + ball head on the tripod holder on the outside of the bag. In terms of camera gear, it comfortably held my kit at the time (D90, 18-70, 70-200, 12-24, 50/1.8, 35/2, sb-900, Sony HDR-SR12 video camera, Seinheisser shotgun microphone, batteries & chargers for all) in addition to all of the other stuff!
If you need a bag that can fit ALL of that comfortably with room to spare for tons of extra crap, go for the Kata! Otherwise, go for the smaller Crumpler 7MDH!

I just picked up a crumpler 8MDH and it's pretty great. Space for a 70-200 MOUNTED on a D300 w/ grip, 17-55, 10-20, 80/1.4, 35/1.8, room to spare. The taller rather that wider configuration of the bag is a bit annoying for digging lenses out of the very bottom but makes it way more comfortable to carry and it looks less bulky, too.

If you want a top-loading bag, the Lowepro AW75 Toploader with a couple of slip-lock accessories is nice and flexible. For a backpack, the Lowepro Computreker bags are nice and would fit all your gear.
Since pictures are worth 1000 words, here's a few thousand for ya... This is my standard load-out on my Crumpler 7MDH. (I have a Nikon N65 standing in for my D90, which I used to take the pictures )
This is what I look like with too much stuff on me (carrying the fully-loaded Kata 3n1-30, a Think Tank Digital Holster DH30, Sony SR-12 on the kata's waist strap, and a Tamrac holster):
Without me holding everyone else's gear bags, here's what the Kata looks like for practical purposes in field use (loaded with the following: D90, 18-70, 70-200, 12-24, 50/1.8, 35/2, sb-900, Sony HDR-SR12 video camera, Seinheisser shotgun microphone, batteries & chargers, 1 day's worth of clothes, 1.5 liters of water, a bunch of granola bars and some pop tarts). For height reference, I'm 5'8" tall, so it's not really that big, I'm just tiny:
^ You're welcome! I've done a lot of bag research lately before settling on the Crumpler 7MDH as my main bag. The Kata 3n1-30 is bigger than any other camera bag I own, but when I have to "haul it all", it carries the gear very comfortably and securely.
For urban shooting, I would think unless you're using the 3n1-30 as your primary pack for short-term travel AND something to transport your gear in, it is way overkill for walking around NYC, and it'll scream "Hey look, it's a tourist!".
I'd go with a Lowepro Classified 200 AW or a Crumpler 7MDH or 8MDH for the amount of gear you're bringing... they're a lot smaller, but with enough room to carry a gripped D300 + mounted 70-200 (hood reversed) and the other lenses you're bringing, with some room to spare.
I've been using a Domke F-2 for my kit up until now, but the inside layout isn't what I'd like it to be for holding a 70-200 securely, and away from the walls of the bag where it would be more protected from getting thumped a bit.
^ No problemo! The 3n1-20 is a fantastic gear bag, and much more practical for every-day shooting. It's the same height as, but much narrower than the 3n1-30 that I own (by about 5" internally!), but it has ample room in the top half for lots of stuff. My now-ex-girlfriend had one of the 20's, and I liked the layout of it so much I got the 30! She used the bag with her D90 + 18-200, a pair of SB-600s, 50/1.8, Sigma 70/2.8, and a few water bottles, maps, cables/chargers/batteries, and a JVC miniDV camcorder. Kata makes a good bag... no ifs, ands, or buts about it!
