I'm starting to pull together photos for my website gallery/portfolio, and I was debating about post-processing consistency. In your opinion, should all photos on a website have the same or similar PP? Or is it okay to have a variety?
Let's say I want to use these 3 photos in my engagements gallery. A different PP was applied to each one - do you think it would prevent the viewer from having a cohesive viewing experience?
Note: I tend to use a larger variety of PP "looks" for engagement shots than for weddings. To me, engagement shots have more room for creativity and each photo can be treated individually....whereas wedding photos tell a story and should have the same overall look to maintain the story-telling flow.
I think consistency in post processing style is *vastly* underrated by wedding photographers today. I see styles that are absolutely all over the place and to be honest, I don't think its working to people's favor.
Its ok to have *some* variety, but you don't want to throw too much at the viewer. You want both a cohesive viewing experience and you want to accurately let the viewer know what they can expect from you. If you give them 10 different styles, they really have no clue.
FWIW, I see two "styles" in the pictures you posted. Style 1 is the first image, while images two and three could be classified as the same "style" - just one in color and one in B&W.
Thanks for your comments! I included the B&W as a different "style" because the typical P&S user probably doesn't convert their shots into B&W, so B&W photos are a bit of a novelty.
For a non-photographer, I think viewing a bunch of color photos, then suddenly coming across a B&W shot actually causes significant disruption to the flow.
