I really love 5. There is a connection that the viewer gets from that image, just peering into her eyes. Great job overall.

2 could use a crop- it feels too centered.

In 3 she looks a bit constipated

I like the movement in 6.

PS. Great job on the lighting. Might I ask what you used?

These are wonderful. The warm lighting compliments her beautiful eyes. I think you succeeded in this shoot.

These shots are great.

OT: How do you guys advertise for senior portraits? I'm not a PRO, and haven't done anything like these, so I was just wondering how to get started.

Thanks, and sorry for hijacking the thread...

Very pretty young lady and and a very nice set, good lighting. 3 should be tossed but the rest are great.

I enjoyed these! Beautiful girl, of course, but your lighting is also beautiful. I second the request for your lighting setup.

I agree about #3 -- not only is her facial expression a bit tense, but I don't like the composition as much. The bottom half of her legs is chopped off and the blurry top of her boot is sticking up from the bottom of the frame.

Watch out for the neck wrinkles in #4.

She has very engaging eyes, but she has a similar expression in most of the pictures. I would have enjoyed seeing a few other expressions from her. Also, although I prefer close-up portraits, I would have also liked seeing some other poses and more 3/4 and full-body shots.

Lovely DOF, by the way! What lens were you using? 135?

Visual360: I am not a ful time pro, but most of my senior clients come from FaceBook or MySpace. I usually give the clients 10 or images for them to post on their profiles and do a little advertising there.....it works

I do agree about #3 not being that good, but that image has gotten the most comments on her profile, so there must be something about it, so I thought I would see what kind of response I would here as well.

E M P: You are right, these were shot with either the 135L or the 35L. I actually only used one 580EXII through an umbrella at like 1/8th power for some fill. It was a completely shaded area, with enough light for such soft light.

These really do have a nice quiet warm feel to them. I think the lighting is perfect.

I think #3 is my least fav of the set but your comment brings up an interesting point. Sometimes the photo that breaks rules (hands missing, 1/2 a foot visible...) or isn't one of the 'photographers picks' is what people react to the most. I guess the thing to learn from that is to keep trying different stuff and don't hold back on what you show the customer (unless it's the shot of your car trunk as you were setting up....)

Like the 2,4, which the model had very good poses with good lighting.
only draw back is the dressing of the model. Either aggressive or preserve, a cross over would be half cooked.

Eyes!! I really like the expressions; she could model. If you get to shoot her again, maybe ask her to go easy on the eyelash stuff? But I ain't mad at her, she is very beautiful and you did a nice job. She's a senior Like, HS senior
