So, finally, after a year since my engagement (shoot with Sam Hassas) I break the silence and here I am, posting my first engagement I ever shot. Please feel free to comment and critique (not the couple they were awesome - but the pictures)
i agree with jamie - not feeling the washed out editing, but overall a very strong set.
be careful about making the images too much about the environment and not enough about the subjects. after the first few, they all felt a little similar.
LOVE the framing on #12 (would like to have seen more from this spot)
7-8-9 feel too obviously strobed
hate the weird finger blob in #17
thanks for sharing - and i look forward to more of your work!
Your use of flash outside is great, but I would experiment more to get the background in balance as well. That said, I like your shots where you used the flash as fill the most. Those look a lot more natural!
Your posing and couple interaction is great! You can see that they are having fun and look very happy! That alone will leave the clients very happy.
Regards and welcome aboard!
Thanks guys for your comments!
First, let me tell you that I'm in US for 1 year so if you see any grammatical errors please.. skip that part
For all the photos besides 10 & 11 I used 70-200 2.8 IS and for those two, 24-70 2.8. My camera was an Canon 5D II. The only flash I had was 580EX II.
MPLS_photog: Thanks for the first reply! You may be right about the SF guys...but I'm from Sacramento :P. She likes the ocean and yea, they choose the location. Thanks for the comment about #2. I know...sometimes I have cropping problems...I will try to fix it in the future.
deepbluejh: I'm trying my best with the editing...Next time I hope it will be much better
ksmahgrts: Indeed, I love SF sceneries and maybe I did exaggerate with the city in the background... About the overexposed photos you right..I used my 580EX II (no softbox) with an Elinchrom transmitter for few photos and after that I had my 580 on the camera. For #17 I tried to make some blur to have the focus on them...Maybe is not the best result :P Anyway it wasn't my finger )
maxwell1295: For next shooting I will try to use a softbox...
I really like 10. I think it might be a bit more balanced if you had position them so that the building filled more of the left of the frame. 15 is lovely, great colors, focus and a natural pose.
I really like the variety of shots you got here. I think you did a really good job with your posing the couple. I know I sometime have a tendency to keep the couple next to each other in most shots but I like how you got a few with the girl in front and the guy a little out of focus in the back... Good stuff!
