I would like to share with you some more birds I have photgraphed recently when passing our country on migration south.
The photo of the Eastern Imperial Eagle taken just before sunrise so not such a good one, got all birders here excited (only one recorded sighing previously in 1989), but only four others got to see it. The bird left within 24 hours.
The uncomfortable looking ID tag enabled the birder community here to trace within 24 hours its origin, the bird was tagged as a juvenile last July in Northern Kazakhstan (3300K away) and believed to be on migration to Africa.
The second Eagle is a Greater Spotted that winter here in Arabia.
Congratulations on the rare sighting and what a treat that must have been. The Greater spotted is a magnificent looking raptor and posed nicely for you.
Wow John these are great, I feel like an arm chair traveller when I see wildlife from around the world. I like them all but the greater spotted is my favourite shot. Good job.
Thanks to Rob and Martin for you added comments. The spotted Eagle, using my vehicle has an hide, allowed me to get as close as almost 30 meters. I took quite a few photos then tried to move nearer hoping for a full frame photo, but he flew, but landed again some 50 meters away. I very slowly drove nearer to him and stopped at 20 meters and managed the photo posted.
