I agree that the 70-200 F4 and the 50 1.8 are super sharp (had both), but I think the 200 F2 IS is the sharpest Canon lens I've seen! Unfortunately, its also one of the most expensive lenses.

Maybe I should trade in my car...is there a lens for clunkers program?

I would tend to agree with you.

The sharpest Canon I've used is a 135L followed by an 85L, but the Zeiss 2/100 Makro seemed even sharper to me. I never liked the Canon 50 1.8 all that much for some reason.

The EF 50 2.5 CM is the sharpest "cheap" lens I have used. Beat my Niffy 50, 50 1.4 USM and 50 1.2L by a country mile.

If you allow some alt lenses, like Zeiss Planar 50/1.7 or Zuiko 50/1.4 @ f/4-5.6, you'll be delighted.

There are a lot of lenses out there that are extremely sharp as well as affordable and that's great. However, sharpness alone isn't everything.

I do not mind someone saying that _____ is the sharpest lens I own or have ever used. But, I cringe when someone starts assuming that it is then the sharpest lens ever made.
