p.3 #1 · How much do you shoot a game?

Dann and Jonathan,

I've been a lurker and occasional random poster here for a few years, so have had the privilege of watching both of your progressions over this time. Before you convey yourselves as "better" than this thread, calling it "ridiculous" and "stupid", please think back to the nearly 3500 posts that JUST YOU TWO have made...have all of them been entirely useful to the whole community? Of course not - no one here can make that claim.

In fact, I'd be willing to be that in the early days of your time here you had questions and made posts that your current selves might consider "ridiculous" and "stupid"...but you were new, eager and not afraid to ask for help - and others contributed answers during that time that helped in that progression I mentioned earlier. I mean, just think back over the past couple of weeks - how many comments have either/both of you made that bumped a thread that didn't bring attention to photos, but rather maybe what was happening on the weekend or which team would win on a Saturday? It's just the nature of the life of this site.

Again, PLEASE do not take this as me calling you out. I'm simply an older guy seeing two talented young photographers dusting up their names a bit on this board...and for what? So some newer photographers can ask others for some reaffirmation about where they are with their work style/work flow?

There's a lot better/worse things to get riled up about...

I shoot D1 and D2 colleges most of my SID's are very happy getting between 150-200 good images. I had been shooting around 300-400 per game depending on the sport. But since I have moved up to a D Mk3 the higher fps rate I find that I am shooting a lot more sequence stuff than I had in the past. Also most of my indoors stuff I shoot strobes so the burst mode is not taking over my shot count. This has done a lot for me in the way I time the shots I am taking and has increased my keeper rate.

While I still practice not to "spray and pray" I will from time to time follow a main player during a drive or run.

But as others have said it really depends on the reason your are there. And the clients needs.

But remember if you are looking for on-line sales parents buy the damnedest things of their kids.

Yea, that has happen to me where I would have a great shot of the kid then another one of just him on the sidelines showing number and helmet..
The mom would order that one instead of the nice action shoot... Oh Well.
I need to work on getting better shots and showing less on my site.. I could be over shooting....lol is there such a thing...lol...

I shoot a lot of frames for hockey. Maybe 1000 for the game but the keeper rate is really low. I mainly burst on shots to try and get the puck being saved or the puck just as it enters the net. Those are the shots that my paper likes the most and basically everything else is standard stock stuff. Maybe 750 of the 1000 shots are just bursting with focus on the goalie when there is a shot attempt and then bursting the celebration if a goal is scored to try to get the best facial expressions. When shooting from the press box I feel that there isn't much else to get though I've started to experiment with some catwalk shots. Basketball about 250 a game as i only shoot one side of the action. I think I'd be closer to 350 if the Referees didn't seem to always stand right in front of me

So, you shoot 100 or 1000. You have a keeper rate of 30% to 70%.

How many of those 2200 did he sell?
