My wife is wanting me to get some images suitable for a tripcate, and has requested an old barn as the focus. A recent issue of the Columbian had some old barns around the Walla Walla area, as well as some around Pullman. We live in Kennewick, and I've been planning to head to Steptoe Butte sometime in the next week or so. I would really like to find a barn that has some interesting, uncluttered scenery around it since the barn will probably be the center image, flanked by another adjoining image from each side. If anyone can suggest a good area or two, or maybe a specific barn, it would really be appreciated.
There is a classic, oft-shot old barn with a tree nearby, isolated all by its lonesome in the field. Hwy 23, about 4 miles south of St. John, in Whitman County.
They're all over the Palouse. Just drive and you'll see 'em!
Take Hwy 12 to Colfax and just keep your eyes open for plenty of them. They range from very rustic (nearly gone) to fairly well preserved. Ask for permission to shoot and you will nearly always get it.
