So...Hanalei received ~17"+ of rain on 11.14.09. Needless to say the east and parts of the north shore were heavily flooded. If you google it there are lots of photos of the crazines on the other sides of the island. This is the hanalei overlook, which some of you might recognize from my other photos or maybe have been there yourself. Impressive sight. I believe the river reached at least 26'...which a normal reading would be about 3-5'.
Of course there was a sunset off to the west which completely contradicted the scene to the south of where we were. Will post those tomorrow :-)
Man that definitely lives up to the title of the wettest spot on earth! Even flooded I still miss the place. I went to Kauai back in 05 and have tried going back multiple times since but haven't been able to due to a various reason. It was actually that 05 trip to Kauai that really got me off my butt and into learning more about photography because I was disappointed with the photos I brought back with my old casio p&s!
It was wicked to witness. Had almost that much at my house but I'm up in Princeville which is elevated and flat. In fact, w/ all the rain east and north no causalties. Some property and livestock but people all good. Most houses in the valley are in stilts yes but some were definitely still had damage. Hanalei still doesnt have tap water (2 days later). Fun times. Will try and get out shooting the waterfalls tomorrow as it's still been raining in the mtns and it's going off something crazy
Amazing shots, Aaron. If I send you a white t-shirt will you dip it in that water for me and send it back? My old 'Red-Dirt' shirt has long ago bit the dust.
Hope you dry out soon, and the tap water is restored.
