Bicolor Angelfish (Centropyge bicolor)

In North America and Europe, it is one of the species to be avoided for aquarium. Specimens tend to be collected haphazardly resulting in poor survivability. After making a few unfortunate mistakes, I have successfully kept it for a few years, and going strong. Apparently I had a healthy specimen, probably due to the close proximity from where I am to where it originated (Indonesia).

It is one of my favorite fishes.

A very nice entry, I like the DOF. It certainly is a beautiful fish!

Best of luck

Thank you guys.

Initially I wanted to shoot the whole tank photo, but it is not in it's prettiest shape and the scratches on the glass is rather horrible.

He is small and fast, I had a hard time to catch the right pose and framing. The DOF at macro distance doesn't help too.

I love the beauty of tropical fish. The dark lighting reminds me of snorkeling a sea cave on Nuie at night in the South Pacific, hoping the sea snakes didn't wake-up cranky!

Nice take on the theme, and undoubtedly hard to capture. Nicely done!

Beautiful! I have Japanese koi, so I'm a fan of fishes, especially pretty ones.

A very difficult shot to pull off. I used to have a salt water tank and I know had hard it is to photograph those little buggers. Well done.

Thanks guys for the kind words.

AuntiPode,
To think of it, I have no idea why the background is black. May be it's a cave or something. The tank has 716 watts of lighting in a 120x60cm foot print, that is more than twice the wattage of my whole apartment combined.

Teglis,
I kinda wish it has more colour. Bicolor isn't exactly too colorful.

Beverly Guhl,
I like Kois too. Unfortunately it is hard to have a pond in an apartment. You made me entertain the thought of turning my entire doorway into a pond, and have a bridge running over it in the middle for people to enter. But I'll have trouble moving really heavy objects in and out.

Chad Schulz,
I'm glad that you feel my pain. At close to 1:1, AF accuracy is extremely critical. And camera has to be kept perpendicular to the glass or else nothing would be sharp. It is also my first time using AI servo shooting real photos, albeit not how it is typically used.

Very pretty fish. I'll have to agree with Chad. I have a marine tank myself, and they certainly do not like to stay put when they are asked to...

If anything, the DOF is a bit too small for my taste, but it does look good though.

Great to know that there are so many reefers here.

I agree on the DOF part, I wish the eyes were entirely in focus, but on the other hand, I am kind of thankful that half the eyes were in focus and the shot is quite usable , can't say that for a lot of the other shots that were taken.
