What's funny is that as a photographer I probably would not have picked the images you did. But so many clients want the type of images in this album.

The posed, "boring" shots we so often hate, are the ones they order as 16x20s.

The parents flew the kids in to have their marriage blessed...set up everything...including picking the photos for the book. Worked with what they wanted.

There's no doubt they'll love it. I like the layout. Simple, but elegant. How much input do yo usually have the client do? We usually prepare an album and then show it to the client without their input, then incorporate some of their suggestions.

For a 20 page I tell them pick 20 must, 20 more and 20 just in case. Same for a 30 page. I have them do it to get their buy in...

I think long term a traditional shot wedding showcases the extended family relationships in a historical pictoral context...

This is a moment in time when a great many relations come together...

What do you do when people pose themselves?...and "cheese"... Not take the photo? Stop the flow? I'd rather just go with it...give them what they want.

I'm a graphic designer--so please take my criticisms with a grain of salt.

Not crazy about the drop shadow. Also, there's inconsistency with borders--some images have it, some don't. On the whole, I feel the album is cluttered...way too many images on all the page. Having multiple images on the same page is fine for a few pages...but every page has three or more images. It would be stronger if there were a couple of pages that just focused on one strong image.

Nice photos, awful awful font. Why a drop shadow? The layout feels very cramped - you'll find clients need to be educated that more photos does not = better album.

John,

these are very well done. The album looks great. Which software did you use to create this layout for the album?

i agree on the drop shadow and the font. especially where you've written "first look..." right on the train of her dress.

i'm also really bothered by the direct flash/big honkin' shadows in 23/24

I've sold more weddings with albums this year than any other. This has been my style. I just can't seem to break away from what has been working.

Here was another one:

I do use two different styles with and without borders consistently.

Are you saying drop the shadow on the font? or drop is completely? Suggestion on another typestyle?

i'm sorry but that second album you posted looks like a cheesy scrapbook to me. i'm sure the couple loved it, but it's just not an aesthetic that resonates with me as "elegant".

as to your question, the drop shadow on both the font and heavy around the images is distracting

The couple from the first album bought 3-books...parents in China, kids in NY and parents in MN. That's a lot of sales!

Not all of these couples are elegant nor are their wedding venues.

OK. I've cut the shadow intensity by 75%. Downsized a couple of small photo groupings. Appreciate your comments.
