I went to visit my nephew this weekend and snapped a few photos with my new Canon 70-200mm f/4. What's your opinion on the out of focus chain link fence pattern in the background.
P.S.That's a birth mark on his cheek, so I won't be removing it.

The fence pattern doesn't bother me at all. What I find distracting is the horizontal pole (or is it an out-of-focus roadway?) that runs through his head. I would remove it or tone it down if possible. Cute kid!

I was born and raised in Photoshop. I agree it won't be a problem, in fact I've already done it just not uploaded.

The two horizontal lines are distracting. Also the orange blob on the left is distracting. If you could throw the background out of focus even more, that would help.

I wouldn't worry too much about the distracting elements---one reason is that they'd be hard to remove due to fact you'd have to reconstruct quite a bit of the out-of-focus fence.
Another reason is that it is a great shot of your nephew---he jumps out of the image, and has the perfect expression. Excellent exposure, too, with vibrant colors and shallow DOF. A slight cropping using the rule of thirds will get rid of the left side orange & much of the orange at the top---the rest can be cloned more easily is you want to go that route.
His parents will be thrilled with this image no matter how your present it. I know I would!

Unless this is a young Steve Martin, the arrow through his head IS a little distracting. It's not horrible, but toning it down a little would probably be a good thing.
By my eye, there's a little too much space at the top of the frame. Try cropping ~40% of it. Leave the left side alone; cropping will crowd the subject, allowing the tree to 'push' him out of the picture. You cannot balance an image with a tape measure and calculator.
