Sorry to write this but this being the wedding forum... I thought I'd share this terrible news... http://twitter.com/fredegan A really good wedding photog... Lost everything in a fire today, except his computer. Sad, but no one was hurt, thankfully, but interesting and sad story nonetheless... if you're in the Texas area, i dunno, maybe there's some help to be offered? i don't even know the guy, but think his work is great and it's just a sad story...
Word up, Fred is a super good guy who would seriously give the shirt off of his back. Single dad, trying to make it. Put yourself in his shoes and hook a bruh up. Let's make it happen together.
sav...you just said it dude. Why even go there? He just lost everything and is a single dad trying to make it on his own. Sometimes we lose sight of things, don't judge. I'm not sure where you're at in life, but don't be a jerk. nuf said.

That blows. Wow. I JUST bought a data rated fireproofs/waterproof safe about 3 weeks ago. I've been able to sleep a little better at night.
If you kick out the wife, you'll free up more space and sleep even BETTER at night.

What did you get, out of curiosity? Would be pretty cool to not need to take my external drive home from the studio, if it's totally safe in the, err... safe.

Very similar but it's a Honeywell and a bit larger. I also DON'T have it in the house. It's bolted down in the grandmothers quarters seperate from the main house. Just another percausion. They would likely not burn up at the same time IF there was a house fire.
Dude. This is SO sad and so scary. My heart totally goes out to Fred. My sister just moved out there, and we've been planning on visiting. So if he's up for some help, we may just make the trip.
We're house sitting for my sister, and I smelled an electrical fire in our office when I got home on Friday. I can't tell you how scary it was or how much I wanted to puke. Everything's OK here, but I'm 98% sure the renters insurance we bought just months ago doesn't cover us here after our move - even though we sent proof (phone bill) that we live here. Don't question why Fred's insurance lapsed. There are so many reasons he may not be covered right now, including a recent move or an update in stuff, or a change in policy. We fight insurance all the time - I can't see why people say things like that.
one thing for everyone to take into account also...a fireproof safe is fireproof, but not always heatproof. Be careful what your buying cause your drive/cd backups could still melt and/or get heat damage and become unusable, even inside a fireproof safe.

Can those things actually protect the contents from the heat... like hard drives and flash cards? I think the best they can do is keep important papers from bursting into flames.
