Another Canuck here. Where in Canada are you located, what was the price if you don't mind??
also in canada here...calgary specifically.
I gotta say, we're getting screwed on the D3s from what I can tell. Nikon canada apparently asked for the names of everyone with preorders so they could decide who was actually going to get the initial shipment (maybe by googling the names...lol...who knows). How is my deposit worth less than anyone elses based on who I am?

Same thing when I bought my D3 from the first batch. Had to fill out a form, send it to Nikon and they supposedly allocated the cameras in conjunction with the store I was dealing with.
which is stupid...because I'm not super pro they're going to say I can't have a D3s till january/february? that's some pretty extreme douche baggery there if you ask me.

I will be phoning around tomorrow (Ottawa area) to find out if anyone has received their shipment of 70-200mm.
I'm in Ottawa. From what I understand, it is shipped out in the order that orders are received. I would wait before claiming such things with Nikon Canada, they've been extremely fair and professional IMO.
I placed mine about a week and a half after it was announced I think.
I talked to the distribution center in Toronto this morning, she said they are shipping today. She also said that they only have enough to fill about half of their initial orders, and while she initially said that they were shipping simply in the order the orders were received, she later also said "depends on when the orders were placed, and where the store fell in the order of allotment"

I am in Ottawa as well, what store did you get yours from or was it an online order?? Interested in knowing if there was any room for price markdown from MSRP, you can PM me the info if you don't want to post it here.
>>>Based on what's happening in the currency markets and general supply and demand...where do you guys see the price of the VR2 in say 6 months?
I think it will be exactly where it is now. It won't go up in spite of the weak dollar, but the weak dollar will prevent it from going down.
The dollar just hit something like a 20-year low against the Yen. It's at 86.345 Yen to the Dollar. In 2007, it averaged 120.163 so that's a 28% drop in just two years!!! If the dollar doesn't begin to recover, expect future Nikon products to be priced very high in the U.S. (Geez...maybe Nikon should open a factory here...it's getting really cheap for them.) It's only going to start recovering if the U.S. reduces its debt. Obama's promised to do that, but so far, no real action as far as I can see. And if the U.S. sends more troops to Afghanistan as is expected to be announced next week, that's going to increase the deficit even more. If the Chinese ever stop keeping their currency artificially low, we'll probably have 20% annual inflation in the U.S. (even though the Gov't wants the Chinese to let their currency float to encourage U.S. exports.)

It's a brand new product, and honestly the mark up isn't very big. I would say you'd be extremely fortunate if you could get $100 off.

The Camera Store in Calrgary has it for 2250 as does Lozeau Camera in Montreal so the markup is higher than one might think. All the stores I talked to in the Ottawa area are 2499 and not willing to budge. They did have some in stock though.
Sorta suprised there is still stock left around the major internet vendors. So is it:
1) Price too high for VII
2) DX users buying up the cheaper used VI rather than buying the VII
3) Nikon actually antcipated the supply for the VII
4) Waiting for the reviews

This is a staple in just about every pro's bag. I would think Nikon would try to make enough of them to take are of initial demand.

I just assumed the 2299 range was it's retail...as a side note, the camera store had 70 people on it's list of preorders...and was not expecting to get anywhere near 70 in the initial shipment I am in there every few days :P
