In case you haven't noticed, B&H dropped their Canon lens prices. If you don't see what I mean, take a look at some super-Ls (300 f/2.8L, 800mm f/5.6L...) and the 100-400mm IS. I was afraid it would go the other way...thanks B&H!!!
Thanks for the heads-up. For the 300 and 100-400, though, I think they've just reversed the 4-5% price increase that was implemented on these and a couple others since September. Nice to see things going in the right direction, though. Especially for the 800......
Yes, the 135mm f/2.8 SF price has also plummeted: from $320 a couple of months ago it jumped up to $550 and now it is only $530.
I suppose the sales have slowed down a bit so they are backpedaling with those prices. However, I wouldn't quite say they are "slashing" them.
One should shop around particularly with smaller retailers of good repute.....one shouldn't assume the big guys have the best price or the best service.
I was in B&H last week to pick up a filter and at lunchtime it was not really busy. You could go right up to the counter without going on their lines to wait. I also felt prices are a bit up and by shopping around you can do better at present particularly if you are out of state and save on the taxes. Salesman said it was a little slow but apparently Sunday is the big day at the store.
The Canon 70-200mm f/2.8L USM IS was around $1,949 most places recently, now it looks like B
&H is only charging $1,899. Only a $50 price drop, but there is a rebate!
I think they starting to see that people will go elsewhere if the prices at BH are too high. Just bought 24-70L not from BH, but another big retailer for almost $200 less; same thing goes for 70-200. I also believe that instant rebate already a part of the price. Canon has a rebate program for consumers, but BH decided to enjoy it instead, and instead of $200 price drop you only see $20. I don't blame them - it's their business, but I'll find another place to shop if I don't like the price - that's my business.
Up until the price drop a couple days ago B&H was charging full msrp on several canon lenses. Some, like Version 1 100mm macro they were $30 over full list price. Visit USA Canon site to see what current full retail is thesedays.
I also have been shopping around for better prices. Roberts had the 17mm TiltShift for $2200. 24mm TiltShift for $1940... Big savings over full list price, thus big savings over B&H.

Care to share the store you purchased these lenses at the lower price?
Maybe if more people bought from these other stores, large online stores like B&H would have to drop their prices.

I was quite horrified when B&H had about the same prices as Canon's estore. I order from B&H in confidence in their reputability, even if I do have to pay a little extra.
