You can use an active repeater to extend that length, however. I've got 6' mini-USB to USB cables to plug into my cameras, then a 20' active USB extension to give me a little more room to move when tethering. It's not the fastest thing in the world but it works. Pretty sure I just picked the extension up from B&H, though you can find them cheaper online.

Thanks for the suggestions so far.
Let's leave the length aside, what would be the standard length for tethered shooting? Is there any make that would withstand more tear and wear?
The brand really shouldn't matter. Almost all of my cables are from MonoPrice.com and I have never had a problem. In fact I've had more issues with brand names like Belkin than I've ever had with MonoPrice. Buy from MonoPrice.com and you won't regret it. Also what i usually do is buy extras because they are so cheap so that if I lose a cable I have a replacement.

No, I don't work for them or anything, I'm just a very satisfied customer.

I bought two cheap 15footers from ebay. The second one to backup the first.
I've used the first one for two years now and never a problem. Both of them where less than $ 10.00 total.
Cheers

It turns out most of those people selling them on eBay actually get their stuff from MonoPrice by the way. I have a friend that makes out pretty well buying MonoPrice cables in quantity and reselling them.
