p.1 #1 · boats from Virginia

Can you tell me if this is appealing or not. I really like trying to make photos look like paintings but don't really have the best photoshop skills. CC.

Thx

I find the colors have an appealing watercolor look. Ordinarily I'd suggest a contrast boost, but that might limit it's watercolor essence. Can you find a printing paper with a watercolor paper texture?

Personally, I dont find the colors appealing, but it is a personal reaction. I think adding more texture to the image, either with a textured paper, as suggested, or further processing would help. Personally I'd start with more processing, then look for a paper.

Hmmm.... Looking again, it's a little more like a pastel than a watercolor. For a particular room with décor in pastel hues and perhaps a nautical theme, it could be a good match.

Brian,
How are you trying to develop the painting effect?
A quick run thru of your current image in artistic filters might enhance your image. I tried applying a rough pastel layer, a watercolor layer, and a rough pastel layer with canvas texture, I think to good effect.

Thx for the comments AuntiPode and Scott.

Scott I used a topaz simplify filter to get what you see. if you can post what you did and tell me how you did it that would be great.

I need some help with textures haven't used those yet.

Thx
Brian

Brian,
I'll post some variations, done in Photoshop. Others have more experience and talent with this, so it would be interesting to post the original and see what range of painterly versions are offered.

Brian, I really like the original, but as others say it might look neat on textured paper.

Scott, I like the first edit you posted.

When you say textured paper do you mean a photoshop filter or real print paper?
Thx for the compliment by the way on my photo.

Actual paper to make the print on. I also enjoyed your oyster shacks...I'm sure your parents would love that as a gift.
