Excellent light Kenny From working on a new diffuser?
Thought you might recognize these. Saw these this morning as I was getting ready to take a few shots with just the one light with the new diffuser. The SB800 was still on the lens. You can see the reflection of the big Lumiquest softbox in the drops. Should be able to get the other lite done tonite and get to the gardens in the morning for some field testing.

Hi Kenny,
Don't think that I've seen your rig before?
How do you mount the SB800 directly to your lens?
From admiring your pics for quite a while, I would suggest that however you do it, the lighting certainly works. . . .

Bruce, I misspoke a little. The flash is mounted to a DIY bracket that's mounted to the tripod collar of the PN-11 extension tube which sits just behind the 105mm lens.
Thanks Kenny
I was wondering what rigs the Nikon guys were using?
I was also wondering as to whether the 105VR is any better, for macro with a tube, than the older 'D' series lens?
Thanks again,
Bruce

Can't answer that one, never having used the newer lens. Mine is an older non-D but it works fine for me. I may try to pick up one of those one of these days just for grins. The only advantage with the VR version that I'd care for is that it's an IF--internally focusing--lens.

Go to your nearest Chinatown, you should be able to pick one of those laser pointer key chain thingee for a few bucks.
thank you for getting it clear - sorry put it in wrong words.
what I wanted to say is just as painting with laser- get a dark room, set your camera to bulb and have some fun. you get one and point it at your glue balls from different direction with different color.
